Got a week long camping trip in the Pisgah National forest coming up.

If there is a govt shutdown, will the trailheads be closed off?

We have a campground reserved not in the park, but travel to trailheads to hike 10-12 miles in the area. May do an overnight backpack.

Will the main trailhead parking lot gates be shut ?

There will be no reason to close the trailheads. But they probably will to make the public angry about the shutdown.

Sounds like you can hike but there will be no facilities open or personnel around.

During the partial government shutdown, the US Forest Service is unfortunately unable to maintain our public lands. Therefore, it’s up to all visitors to be respectful and responsible while visiting. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you plan a visit to our National Forests.

How are they gonna close them if there’s no one to close them?

I thought the exact same thing when Obama shut everything down. Then Trump left them open and pristine areas ended up covered in trash, (literal) shite, and graffiti. Changed my perspective regarding future shutdowns.

I will never notice. Haven't been to the visitors center in a decade or more and I'm on National Forest property daily.

Everything I do I can do without their assistance.

They couldn’t shutdown the National Forests in the PAC NW if they wanted too. Too many ways to get in.

Yeah, the only think it may affect is the visitors centers. They're generally for tourists anyway.

We were up in Gatlinburg during one of the shutdowns. Did a bunch of the waterfall hikes and did not notice anything keeping visitors out. There may have been some road closures, but we did not see any.

Biggest impact was when we went to do the trail hike by the TN/NC State line, we realized all of the bathrooms were closed. That day was a little painful, but the next hiking day we adjusted accordingly and hit the bathrooms between hikes

The hunting in national parks is great when they’re closed.

Spent a lot of time in the Pisgah. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a Ranger around the trails.
