Just stopped at one for the first time (outside of Wichita). Dayum son.
Everything was meticulously organized and the whole place was squeaky clean. Solid selection of drinks, slushes, snacks, and hot food (they have a kitchen).
Very impressed.
A close second to Buc-ee’s

It's hard to imagine people that spend time in the south haven't been in a QT, but you are correct.
They are almost all well-maintained, and the employees often are long-timers. They are all over the place here in ATL, and there are only a few that I would avoid. Fountain drink and slushie machines almost never broken down!
RaceTrac new stores are also pretty nice, but they have had serious issues staffing them, so even new stores have been lacking the cleaning they need and some even have to lock their doors.
Speedway stores were nice for a couple years, but they have almost all turned into 7-11 trash. (7-11 owns them).
WaWa stores are in the same family QT, mostly nice, good food, dependable. They haven't made it to ATL area yet, but they are a mid-Atlantic and Florida thing.
Sheetz stores are all along the eastern corridor, and typically fit into the same grouping as QT/WaWa.
Disclaimer: I sell stuff to the convenience channel.

Wow, they are everywhere in my town. I never go inside but they usually have some of the cheapest gas.

Are they all around the SW end of I-85?

Probably.
The one in Buckhead near Home Depot is sketchy as hell, but that's not QTs fault.

It's pretty common at the QTs in DFW to have two staff alternating between four registers to get customers out the door faster.
I've never had a problem with the hot dogs on the roller being old and crinkly, either.

This happens basically every week or so at the one I frequent. I really like their coffee.

Stopped at one in east texas last year. Had only just opened but the efficiency was crazy good. Just one woman working the registers but you’d have thought there were 2 or 3.

Very normal. They start on the next customer while the first one is doing credit card etc.
very efficient

Always stopped at the QT in villa rica on the way to Atlanta
Best last place to stop to me to get gas and pee before the madness of Atlanta traffic

They stole their logo from the best cheap beer ever:

They are indeed quick and efficient. The chili dogs are solid too.
It’s amazing the traffic they turn compared to a 7-Eleven, where the clerk (who’s slow to begin with) has to stop down to run lottery tickets or make a crappy pizza.

It's Buc-ee's with out all of the people oogling the place like it's a tourist attraction.
Who needs all the various food items from Buc-ee's when I can get gas, use the bathroom, grab a roller dog and be back on the road in 5 minutes

That’s my go to gas station when traveling in areas that have them. Usually clean like a new store.

Two totally different animals.
We have WaWa. No rollerdogs at WaWa, but they do make sandwiches fresh for you in the store and if you don't want to wait, the stuff in the refrigerated section is fresher because it is made on site.

Wawa is entering the Georgia market soon, primarily in southern and coastal areas.

Kum and Go (the newer ones) is similar, though not quite as good. Casey's is also similar.
Gas stations are cray these days. The Bucees trend has really put them over the top, and I"m seeing more and more Bucee's ripoffs of mega convenience stores. There's one on the Texas/Oklahoma border that is Texas themed that is crazy. It's in Denison, I believe. Stopped at another one in Florida on I10 that was similar sized.
I do think the QT experience is probably the best, though, from what I've seen.
