For Sunday brunch, I would highly recommend getting reservations for a sunroom patio table at Beatnik on the river

They have biscuits and gravy with spicy lamb that will change your life

… and yes, it always looks like this:

I’m dead serious about beatnik, I was in Chicago for four days back in January and we had brunch here. It was amazing.

Dinner at Niso’s prime was also killer.

We had drinks at Crying Tiger and Gus’s sip and dip.

Should also be known that Chicago has well over 200 neighborhoods outside of The Loop, West Loop, and River North. If OP has time to kill while his wife is busy, there's plenty more to check out. Can get pretty stale being in The Loop and River North for more than a couple days, but I will follow your Crying Tiger and Gus' reviews.

We are looking at going to a Blackhawks game. Will play at home while there. Never been to a hockey game before.

Is it worth spending the money?

Heck yeah. Hockey games are really fun. I barely know the rules, but always have a good time when we go to one.

Especially if you've never been, NHL is very worth it. The pace is incredible to see at that level. Hawks games are a fun time, but I understand why $375 might be too steep The 300 sections will be totally fine.

Been to numerous MLB and NFL games. The speed at that level is crazy in person . TV doesn't show how fast it is

If it's anything like the other arenas I've watched hockey in (Predators a few times & Blues), there's really not a bad seat in the house. Also sitting up a little higher as a first timer helps you kind of understand the flow of it all.

You can read my posts in the other megathread that hoopsgalore posted, but yes do a Blackhawks game if you can. You will have a good time even if you don't understand hockey. Try to get up close if you can.

I went to Chicago for the first time in November and had a good time. My wife was at a conference all day, so I had one day to explore by myself. That day I went to Navy Pier, Ohio St. beach, took the red line train up to Wrigleyville and explored that area around Wrigley Field. Met alot of Michigan fans in the bars in that area; there was a cfb game at Wrigley that weekend.

The day my wife was free, we did the architecture river tour (it's worth it. Get the bourbon and cider if it's cold outside), and rode the centennial wheel at Navy Pier, then a Blackhawks game later that night.
We stayed downtown in the loop and mostly around that area.

I thought the people were really friendly up there. Idk why I expected a New York, cold shoulder vibe. I get being from a rural town an unfamiliar city can be intimidating but Chicago was easy to get around.

Blackhawks game.

As others have said, go.

Never been to United Center, but used to go see the Thrashers pretty often when they were in Atlanta. My favorite seats were the mid-level corners - you could see most of the ice and a good bit behind the near goal. It allowed you to see all of the action no matter where in the ice it was.

Before the game even if you didn't have seats down there you were still allowed to go down right by the glass to watch warmup/skate around so you could still get that up close feeling.

I had Blackhawks partial season tickets for about 9 years and loved it. Granted that was back before through when they were winning cups, but still those games are GREAT.

When I first got my ticket package it was $11.75 a ticket and that went up 8x over the years I had them. Unfortunately they've now sucked for years and I believe are on their 3rd rebuild since the last Cup, but like I said they're fun nonetheless. If you go don't miss the anthem. Back during the Cup years the UC got up to 122 decibels during it.

I used to get goosebumps every time and do again watching videos of it. Sorry for the Blackhawks tangent. I just miss those times and teams

ETA: Just checked the standings and they're the second worst team in the NHL

Following and appreciate all this information as well, we plan to go towards the middle/end of June for about 4-5 days in Chicago (River North), Cubs game, drinking and eating around the area, then Amtrak to Milwaukee for about 4 days, Brewers game and eating drinking, Summerfest for a day then Amtrak back to Chicago for a day then fly back out of O'Hare.
From everything is read we should be able to use public transportation for everything except the Amtrak. Blue Line from O'Hare to downtown, Redline to Wrigley Field, area is safe and walkable.

Advice I'll always give, especially those who wisely use public transportation, fly into Midway if you can, much closer to the loop and much easier than O'Hare. Edited to add: Union Station is about a three block walk from the Quincy loop station, so easy public transportation use there as well (provided you don't have a ton of luggage).
