Are bars heavily restricted now?
I havent been out since the masks were reinstated. But some places are asking for vaccine proof now.
My local grocery says masks or you will be asked to leave. 4 days prior, no masks.
Obviously all this can change in 2 months.
Weve been on more strict guidlines than the rest of the state.

That weekend is the French Quarter Festival weekend
I saw that and if I go this is definitely an event I would love to go to. Hope it happens

Go to magazine street bars there like the vintage and the tasting room along with good food places like Juan’s flying burrito

There is no reason to go to NOLA any more.

No chance.

what is a nice tourist area for someone who has never been to the city?
It’s obvious you’ve never been
There is good food. There are fun bars. There is a casino. Lots of historical landmarks and a cool WW2 museum.
All of this is right in the middle of one giant shithole full of bums, thieves, and decrepit buildings, pothole filled streets full of horse shite, puke, and piss.
There is no nice tourist area. Keep your head on a swivel and watch your wallet.
A fun attraction is to bet the guy 5 dollars who thinks he can guess where you bought your shoes

I mean, I just can't imagine it being that bad. Regardless I am sure there are still plenty of fun things to do. Only for a couple of days

pretty much all of the massage parlors and whore houses, they're pretty strict these days

Sounds like some good stuff (especially the WW II Museum). Appreciate it!
No problem. You have to sift through the shitshow here on the OT as a lot of em will shite on everything. The leadership in Nola may suck donkey dong(they canceled Jazz Fest today).
But you can still enjoy much of what the city has to offer.
Jackson Square, and the French Quarter in general, is still a gem of architecture and culture you shouldn't miss out on if already here for the game.

This is why I love the OT

WWII museum is awesome. Must do.
Bars are requiring masks for entry, but not enforced (at least the ones I go to regularly).
I would walk the quarter and day drink and get out of there at night. Head to the warehouse district or uptown for the night which has much cooler bars and restaurants. If French Quarter fest is that weekend and happens you will have a blast.
You need to move this to the travel board though.

Probably visited Bourbon street a handful of times and eaten at shitty fried seafood places in the quarter
Proceeds to give advice about visiting New Orleans

Deltaland is a nice and funny OT poster. But he's full of shite. Delta, when's the last time you actually set foot in the FQ?
We went just 3 months ago with my kids. It was awesome during the day. Just before it got too hot outside.
And my very dear friend From Texas just passed through YESTERDAY on their way to Destin.
I took him to New Orleans for his first time for NYE 1999. Since then, He always takes his daughters for a stroll through the quarter for Beignets at Cafe Dumonde and he gets a Hand Grenade from Tropical Isle anytime he's close to the city.

Don’t go, my wife went this weekend and drank way too much. She puked all over the whole city.

Thanks to the mods for moving this to the travel board. Honestly I didn't even think to post it here

Get a place in the quarter. Hit up Cafe Du Monde for beignets. Take the boat to the zoo. Hang around zoo/Audubon park. Be home by dark. Take an Uber uptown later and hopefully you don’t get killed going from your car to the hotel door.
Forgot to mention the WW2 museum. Definitely a must see.
