I still can't believe lsu hired an old bo pelini.

Pelini in his first tenure as LSU DC was fine. But it became obvious due to the countless coverage busts during his 2nd stint that he never figured out how to defend the spread offense.

I really hope we hire a ST coach (and not a bum like Polian but someone who can recruit AND coach a la McGaughey)

underwhelming hire per LSU standards

Blake has a lot of potential, but certainly not a slam dunk hire. Will be interesting to see if we make him the highest paid DC

Of course you're spinning this negatively.
Give us your prospect, why they would be the better hire for LSU and why they are better than Baker?

No, OC is up in the air as of now and haven’t even begun looking there yet. DC is the main focus currently.

So it’s Blake, Unlucky? You’re my most trusted insider on here (outside certain player relatives).

I'm quite sure Baker will be an improvement over House and gang, BUT, we really have one shot at this for the next few years, and I agree with some that asked, if Baker was so good, why did BK not hire him last year. I certainly don't think his defense was spectacular this year like others...it was OK and better than LSU's, but if LSU has the money, why not go after big time for a coach like Michigan has that produced a dominant defense in all areas...the complete opposite of what LSU showed out this year, and dominated Bama in the biggest game of the year for them. If LSU is going to spend huge money for a DC, then lets get one that has proven themselves to be at the top of the game...and that is Jesse Minter.

Why are you so certain that a big 10 coordinator will do well here?

Dude if you can’t see that Minter is an elite DC, just stop watching football

So why does the fact that he made a better than average defense at Missouri not matter but Kiffin fanbois are quick to tell you he’s so impressive BECAUSE he did better than average at Ole Miss?

I think the simple answer is there wasn’t a lot of familiarity, he hadn’t been an SEC DC. You could see he was a good LB coach. Now he’s a proven DC in the best cfb league

House was a pretty good DC at UK and was coming from the NFL.

We’re not just going to take Michigan’s DC unless maybe Harbaugh leaves. I’m sorry but people overestimate LSUs pull to some degree. Look at who Oklahoma just hired for DC. Baker would be a solid younger hire with SEC experience.

I've accepted that this team will be offense focused for the foreseeable future. Especially based on recruiting

We just need a good defense. I think Baker gives you that

He thinks Bo Pelini was a better hire bevause his imbecile low IQ buddy Ed Orgeron hired him. That’s all you need to know about the Booty Pirate Kings swamp trash arse.

How is this being downvoted? The latter part is objectively true

I'm spinning this objectively. Objectively, hes not one of the top 10 or even top 20 DC's in the country. If we are trying to compile a championship coaching staff, why not swing for the fences?

Baker COULD be great. He could also be mediocre. Coming off of one of the worst seasons on defense in LSU history, we can't afford to settle. We need a top-tier DC to come in and completely change the culture on defense. We don't want to turn into Lincoln Riley's teams where mediocre to bad is acceptable

If he were to stay at Mizzou his defenses will become elite the next few seasons. He’s changed the culture there in the past two seasons already and has talent pouring in at the moment.

He’s what LSU needs right now

Nailed it.

Baker is the real deal. No, his defense wasn't "quite" as stingy this year as his first season, but it was still a very good unit. Don't let the LSU-Missouri game fool you...Jayden Daniels did his thing and that is what it is.

If LSU gets him, you're in good hands until he gets a HC gig.

And succeed as dc at lsu, you are most likely a power 5 coach in 3-4 years.
