That's what Florio was saying today. He mentioned Daboll and one that makes no sense to me -- John Harbaugh. If John really wanted to get into college, I would see how Moore does for another year at Mich.

Given Brohm & Key are sort of at their Alma mater I doubt they will leave. Penn State is really in a bad spot as far as getting someone good. Like you pointed out, going the interim route for now until someone one becomes available and considering 2026 season as a "Wash" would be the sane thing. These Penn State Admins really messed this up.

Daboll seems to fit if he wants to go back to college. Big name that coached under Saban and was successful in the NFL as an OC and mid as a HC (but bad luck and horrible management-drafting by the GM played a big role in that).

This would actually be a good hire I think, especially considering who’s available. The Giants are a fricking mess with their ownership and dork GM. I’m still not convinced he isn’t a good coach

The problem with Daboll is I don't think he wants to go back to college

It's a "coordinator/QB coach in NFL v. college HC" decision

This guy could go up in flames and quickly. Second time calling plays after being demoted the first time and works for Ryan Day who’s heavily involved in the offense. Or could be successful, who knows. Its usf, any candidate for them has risks, but man this has the possibility to be a disaster

So a first time coach could either succeed or fail.

Going out on a limb there.

the giants are so horribly run and seeing the offense crater since he left, he can probably get a good OC job in the NFL and find himself on HC short lists in short order

More of it could fail miserably and be a dumpster fire. A lot of guys fail, not everyone fails and leaves a total mess

I had not heard this? If true, good for Hartline, but bad for us and WR recruiting. I wonder if Ryan Day will bring back Chip Kelly as OC?

Penn State shouldn't be a place that hires a guy that needs to cut his teeth at the position.

This. Hartline is an outstanding position coach and recruiter but, has ZERO head coaching experience at any level. No way was he getting the keys to a top 10 program that was in the CFP semi’s the year before.

Insiders said Elko was the target, but he withdrew about a month ago then PSU set their sights on Sitake. PSU had an agreement with Sitake on Sunday which allowed him to coach the B12 Championship game. There was a BYU team meeting scheduled Monday afternoon for him to announce.

BYU boosters and donors caught wind and pledged the money to keep Sitake as well as a full court press by higher ups in the LDS church.

Firing Franklin at the time was the right move. Losing two straight as 20 point favorites is inexcusable. Add losing three games against top 5 teams when you had the ball to win the game on the last possession and your 5 star qb throws a pick into quadruple coverage on first down, things became extremely toxic in Happy Valley.

The AD bodged it by not also firing the GM who was a Franklin loyalist and basically kept working for Franklin after he was fired (killed the recruiting class) . Not hiring Terry Smith after Elko said no after it became apparent that Smith may have some head coaching chops was the other.

The team started playing much better once Franklin was fired - first three games were at Iowa, at OSU, and home vs Indiana with a brand new QB. Us Penn State fans viewed that if Kraft couldn’t get the whale because the market changed, we could see the benefit of hiring Smith for about 5 million, and using the money saved towards NIL and the roster.

This is his first season calling plays. He has never called them before this season.

Hiring Smith would give the outside impression that PSU is not a serious program

Bold move to get a tattoo sleeve at age...38...

Everyone thinks he's a home run hire...let's see how he does without the Columbus Machine behind him.
