Right. BK was a proven big time coach. Saban was ascending and not a big time coach. Won a national championship. Les was ascending and not a big time coach. Won a national championship. Ed was neither proven or a big time coach. Won a national championship. BK was proven big time coach. Did not win a national championship.
going by this metric we should hope for one of the following.
1. Dillingham
2. Brohm
3. Key
4. Lashlee
5. McGuire

proven big time head coach?

So....
Nick Saban
Kirby Smart
Ryan Day
Dabo Swinney (not no but hell no)
Jim Harbaugh

There's the list of guys who have won a championship in the last 10 years.
Good luck with that.

Freeman, Sonny Dykes, and Deboer have made the championship game.

Others to make the semi-finals
James Franklin (fired)
Sark (wants to leave for the NFL)
Luke Fickell at Cincy. He's doing wonderful at Wisconsin
Brian Kelly
Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma
Chris Peterson (not coaching anymore)
Mark Dantonio (embarrassed in his single appearance, retired)
Jimbo (not gonna happen)
Mark Helfrich, fired from Oregon, can't get a job now.

Define "proven big time coach", and then let us know which one of those is available.

the only ones from the list i just made that are even remotely available are James Franklin and maybe Dabo, and not sure why anyone would want either of those guys at LSU.

I don't want a CEO coach that is reliant on his coordinators. I want my head coach either calling the offensive plays, or is basically the defensive coordinator. Don't care which one, but he needs to be one of them.

I think Saban is actually the most likely to come here

ill be honest, I do not really think that saban will be the next head coach at LSU, but I also think that there is a non-zero chance that he comes back.

I think its pretty remote possibility, but it is a possibility.

If true they will find themselves trawling for a new head coach this time in 2030 or before.

Luke Fickell was the can't miss candidate a few years ago. This is not an exact science.

It is like NFL now, you win with the best roster period. Saban left because he didn't have that advantage anymore.

I think people on this board need to mentally prepare themselves that LSU is not going big game hunting this time around.

They are going to go young up and comer with a track record of HC success.

They will pay him $5-6m a year on a 5?yr basis with massive financial incentives for benchmarks met a playoffs appearances, wins, championships etc.

The rest of the big name Coach’s money will go to the roster building. Buy the best players.

I want a coach that has a history of fielding some mean m'fers that will fight. Could care less about the W/L record. College football is different now; past records should not be held in as high regard anymore. Being a players' coach and coaching aggression is a big part of the winning formula now.

Hard to come by these days considering that there are only 3 active head coaches that have won a national title and one of them is struggling mightily right now.

ETA: just looked it up and if Lanning leaves Oregon he has to pay them $20 million

His overall buyout to leave for another job also includes the cash value of his Nike stock, which is estimated to be in the tens of millions. I've seen a couple of figures online that project his overall buyout to be close to or about $60 million total.

ALEX GOLESH. proven HC and proven OC. He will handle both postions and that is what we need at LSU. Stop with the CEO model. We need coaches not a front man.
