All my life, I’ve heard it as “Key.yev”….now these pundits are tripping over themselves

To pronounce it “Keev”….i feel like I’ve been either lied to or someone is trying to steal something from my childhood.
And add a frosty to that.
And add a frosty to that.

They also updated the spelling from Kiev to Kyiv.

Same with "Pock-e-stohn" (Pakistan)
Or "ISIL" for ISIS
Or "ISIL" for ISIS

They also tell us latinos should be referred to as latinix. I dont know who appointed them as the deciders of all things.

a languages professor told me the actual correct Ukrainian pronunciation is "KEE-if", rushing through the word as fast as you can
I'm an American, I pronounce it "Kee-ev". Any bitch corrects me I just correct them back

Yeah it’s pretty gay. Kiev is the Russian spelling. And Kyiv is how Ukraine spells it. They’re doing it to show solidarity with Ukraine. I’m sure Ukraine appreciates knowing American journalists are spelling the capital the same way they do while the bombs are falling.

Ka-tar became Cutter. It's a way for the faux-elite to show they are faux-elite.

Virtue signaling solves all issues.

I’ve never eaten chicken keev

They’re gaslighting you. When they say Keev they are letting you know that they know that you know it’s all bullshite and they don’t care.

Vitali Klitschko is the mayor.

In the 80s, when SNL was funny, they spoofed the press pronouncing “Nicaragua” and trying to sound latin doing it. Must have been around the time of Iran-Contra.
Key takeaway: They riffed on the MSM. They didn’t base 100% of the material on going after Reagan and the GOP.

Forever I heard “ The Ukraine “, instead of just Ukraine.
We’re subtly influenced by the media in what & how to think.
And not so subtly too.

Yeah - when did that happen? This is the first time I've seen it written that way.

ISIL came from Obama trying to stab Israel in the back.
The L stands for Levant, which includes Israel.
The S only include Syria.

Actually - before it became a nation of its own, Ukraine was just a name of the area. It was sort of like referring to it as "the plains" - (at least that is how it was explained to me once Ukraine was officially the governmental body.)

Yep - me too - too old to keep up with the artificial language mutations.

That I know of Kiev has been spelled about 15+ different ways in just the last 500 years.
Here is a better question, now do you pronounce Moscow?
In Russian it is Moskav, thus Kiev is an English sounding word. Kyiv is the Ukrainian word for Kiev and pronounced k?jiu?.
Ukrainian language is very close to Russian and different and easy to tell apart.
Like when Stalin was first heard on the radio, his Georgian was easy to tell from Russian.
Russian is a huge country and many different words for the same place.
