I remember always knowing they were one of the best selling acts of all time and that maybe I had heard a few tunes over the years. I've been listening to the greatest hits this week and have been stunned at how well I know a LOT of these songs.

I use to have their old drummer on some of my demos. He was a cool guy, fantastic drummer with a meter from hell. He got kicked out of the band though. I've met Randy Owens at a cattle auction. He's a nice guy too.
I started writing songs and pitching, because of those guys. They made it seem doable, and that dreams were attainable.

Their first album came out when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. It was around the same time that a lot of country artists were having crossover success(Urban Cowboy, Kenny Rogers, Eddie Rabbit, Crystal Gayle, etc).

Their first album was huge, though. I grew up in Chattanooga and thought that maybe they were so popular there because Ft Payne, AL is close by...until I started seeing them on pretty much any tv show that had musical guests and saw how many/long songs on that first album were staying on the charts(tv guide that came with Sunday paper).

Saw them in concert back when they were in their prime and even though I'm not really much of a country music fan it was pretty good. They did have a lot of nice sounding songs. I was always fond of Dixieland Delight and Mountain Music

40 Hour Week is the one that really sent me down memory lane.

I live near Fort Payne. The drummer that got screwed over is teaching drum lessons locally. I know there are 3 sides to every story, but what they did to him seems pretty crappy.

I remember growing up with them. They were a staple on the radio in the 80s.

I met Randy Owen and Teddy Gentry in the early 90's, my aunt sold them a condo in Destin. Both were really cool to me as a 10ish year old.

I've loved them since I was a little kid. Alabama Greatest Hits Vol. 1 and Michael Jackson Bad were my first two cassette tapes I got around '87 or so.

The Maker Said Take Her was the song my wife and I danced to at our wedding

Don’t talk to me about Alabama unless you’ve been to June Jam.

They put on a heckuva show in the 80s. I got talked into going to one of their concerts and really enjoyed it.

Alabama was the country band during my school years. They became popular around 80-81 when I was in Middle School, and remained popular through my college years into the early 90's. Many, many great songs still on my playlist:
Love In the First Degree
Why Lady Why
Feels So Right
Take Me Down
When We Make Love
Song of the South
There's No Way
She and I
Old Flame
If You're Gonna Play in Texas You Gotta Have A Fiddle In The Band
Mountain Music
Touch Me When We're Dancing
The Touch
Here We Are
Forever's As Far As I'll Go
Christmas In Dixie

Saw them in concert at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson in 1991. Good concert.

Man I could sing along with MM and Closer probably front to back as we listened to the albums so much as a kid. Even went to the museum at one point.

I don’t think they did right by Herndon. I always thought Jeff was Teddy and Teddy was Jeff.

Great music.

I'm in a hurry to get things done. Rush and rush until life's no fun. All I really gotta do is live and die, but I'm in a hurry and don't know why.

Still do.

I remember them winning quite a few Entertainer of the Year awards in the 80's. Also remember them winning the Artist of Decade award for the 1980's. Pretty impressive considering they beat out some all time greats like Hank Jr,George Strait,Kenny Rogers,Ronnie Milsap & Earl Thomas Conley.

I’m 15 and headed to hunt in Tensas. Got the windows down in the Bronco and Dixieland Delight on the radio.
