They were all mentally ill. The drugs were an attempt to treat them but it didnt work

I dont think handing out prozac like candy is a good thing but this is correlation without causation

The bigger problem is primary care docs trying to treat mental illness with medication alone which is a bad idea.

They need a therapist first then if they need meds then they get meds.

The only training a lot of primary care docs get is 1 month in med school and maybe 1 month in residency

Or... Ya know... A visit to the youth nuthouse for a while like they did before the late 90s and the proliferation of prescription drugs for every symptom on earth.

Primary care should not treat kids or young adults period.

From MayoClinic.org SSRI’s Mayo Clinic

Suicide risk and antidepressants

Most antidepressants are generally safe, but the FDA requires that all antidepressants carry black box warnings, the strictest warnings for prescriptions.

In some cases, children, teenagers and young adults under 25 may have an increase in suicidal thoughts or behavior when taking antidepressants, especially in the first few weeks after starting or when the dose is changed.

Anyone taking an antidepressant should be watched closely for worsening depression or unusual behavior.

If you or someone you know has suicidal thoughts when taking an antidepressant, immediately contact your doctor or get emergency help.

It's not like you can get those medications from your local Dollar General. They were on them because they had underlying issues that had already manifested. The medication was an attempt to treat their issues.

Like when someone stops taking them all of a sudden.

So psych drugs don’t have adverse events involving violence or self-harm?

I’m a psychiatrist and I agree with this 100%. You don’t throw metformin at a prediabetic without first encouraging lifestyle changes diet improvements and weight loss. Same thing applies with mental health. Don’t come crying to me about fricking insomnia asking for ambien when you sleep with the TV on, eat a giant arse meal before bed IN bed and drink 5 Red Bulls a day.

You're one psychiatrist. You can speak of your ethical standards, but we all know there are doctors who don't follow those standards. Kid won't sit still while you're watching "Real Housewives"? Here's a pill. Kid's getting C's instead of A's? Here's a pill. You're in my office again getting on my damn nerves? Here's the pill, just go away.

If they're doing it with pain meds, why wouldn't they do it with something as "harmless" as Adderall?

Sometimes I get nervous on airplanes.
My friend’s mom’s boyfriend’s brother had some little blue pills that helped.
Think I can get 240 of them a month?
