Amazon Press Release

quote:

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul. 14, 2022-- (NASDAQ: AMZN)—Prime members purchased more than 300 million items worldwide during Prime Day 2022, making this year’s event the biggest Prime Day event in Amazon’s history.

I thought we would see some pull back this year.

At least for me, I’ve been holding back on purchases and saw this as an opportunity to get a “good” price.

That's surprising because I thought it was pretty underwhelming this year.

Pretty incredible… can only imagine what credit card debt is at right now.

Car repos up is an indicator people are at their breaking point. Guess people are saying “F it, I’ll just charge it and deal with it when I default”

Wasn’t that why JP said they had worse earning, they were hedging for oncoming defaults?

Same here…I haven’t been buying much the past few months and used Prime day as an opportunity to load up on most of our household “consumables”. Most I’ve ever spent on a prime day. Mainly on items that we eat, drink, use within the house/yard, etc. Also grabbed a couple mobile car jumpers for the wife and I. There really wasn’t any big wow factor to prime day but their everyday use items were priced pretty good

Prime has more subscribers than ever, therefore Prime day should have more purchases than ever. I’d like to see the average $ spent per prime subscriber to see that difference, I’d imagine it’s less than in the past

Amazon is at least trying to keep Items cheap with inflation. I usually buy 5 energy drinks to last me the week for work. Walmart has raised them to 2.28 a can. I can go to amazon and purchase a case for 1.40 a can. Amazon is not immune to raising prices but compared to most retailers they are trying on many items to keep them low. Will be keeping my Prime even with them raising prices on membership because compared to most Amazon is still cheaper.

I just cancelled mine. Went from $119 to $149. Don’t use it enough to justify the extra 30.

You’re paying for the lower price with your membership dues. Do you not understand that? You pay for it one way or the other.

They got you good

As long as my credit cards keep rotating in 5x Amazon bonuses I'm gonna feed that Goliath until Amazon Houses buys my house to rent it back to me, only to evict me when I'm 80.

The free shipping always felt ahead of its time to me. Worth every last dollar for the membership

Just do what my inlaws do. They don't want to pay for the subscription so they have the rest of us buy for them. That is until I cut that crap out.

When the economy is not looking so hot, people are going to be more focused on buying sales rather than full price. If prime day was up but regular sales numbers are down, there is probably still pullback.

I dont know the amazon model.
But costco profits their membership dues and essentially runs the stores around cost.

If the membership dues are the only "profit", then there is a large opportunity for the consumer depending upon need/volume.

Same here. I’d had it for years. But between Prime Video not having anything worthwhile to watch (that didn’t require rental or purchase) and my girlfriend getting packages with regular shipping before I got mine with Prime (she lives in a more urban area), I dropped it at the last renewal.

I’m sure they expected some drop off though. That’s surely baked into their profit model.
