In the video he says that it didn’t happen until he left the states for several months. This proves, at least in this case that these people are guided buy groupthink instead of individual reflection according to the data.

This. The big takeaway here is that his travelling out of the US exposed him to the fake politics behind masking and all. Once he got out of the politico-media blizzard of fear omnipresent here in the US he was able to look at it more objectively and that different angle of view woke him the frick up. That he was adult enough to admit he was the one who was wrong in buying into it is something which still escapes many.
