Broke his damn finger and plays 40 minutes for his team in a must win game.
Our “superstar”, sits out bc 80% of himself isn’t good enough to help the team. He’s better off helping them from the bench. SMH the more I think about how this season played out

That's why they're in the playoffs and we're not even close to being in the playoffs.

We were extremely close to being in the playoffs...

We still don’t know what the problem was. There were a lot of leaks, including to Shams, about conditioning. The problem may not have been he wasn’t willing to play hurt, but he wasn’t willing to do enough non basketball work to get in shape to be allowed to finish rehab.
That’s ultimately on Zion, but it also feels like the team cutting off its nose to spite its face. It’s just a messed up situation.

I’m old enough to remember when people on this board were enraged at the thought of trading for Fox last year

Zion is a baller though.
God that was one of the most brain dead comments i've heard. Like man you can't be a baller if you dont play ball. I can sit on my couch and call myself an NFL quarterback but if i don't play on sundays then im not an fricking quarterback

My personal opinion is that doesn't matter. There are plenty of examples of players coming back from injury in crucial junctures of the season that come off the bench with restrictive minutes because they aren't in shape to play 35 or more minutes.
The telling issue is when JV stepped on Ingram and was hobbling out there, having 3 minutes of Zion in any shape would have been a lift. I was impressed with JV who gave the Pelicans what little he had left after that injury but having someone who could make a difference after that unfortunate circumstance could have swung that game.

I was thinking about this last night watching Randle playing hurt and what it did to his stats. They definitely took a hit, same with every player that attempts it, especially with minutes restrictions. Zion's numbers would take a huge dip playing 15-20 minutes a game, even worse in a specialized role that doesn't focus on his preferences. Is that why he doesn't want to do it? If he can't be a star and put up huge numbers, why chance it?

Randle is clearly hurt.
But he was equally bad and inefficient when healthy last time he was in the playoffs.

Not so much about Randle, just what playing hurt or limited does to your numbers. It's pretty evident Zion lives for stats. He hated the minutes restrictions for that reason. He wants to put up historic numbers. He can't do that if he's not 100%.
I just never thought of that before and it kind of clicks that is his motivation. Which I do not like. Am I totally off base?

No, you’re not.
I think a lot of people were giving Zion the benefit of the doubt up until that last interview before the play in game. That was such a bunch of ridiculous nonsense (“Physically, I’m fine” “I can just be on the sideline supporting them more“…what?), now pretty much everyone thinks it’s a Zion issue and not just bad luck.

This is right on the mark. Sadly some people on this forum live in denial.

You guys actually believe Zion just didn't want to play?
The Occam's Razor answer is both Zion and the team are being dumb asses. Zion by not doing the work he needed to do to meet whatever conditioning/weight metrics the training staff had, and the team by sticking so hard to these benchmarks and not letting him play himself back into shape after his injury appeared to be healed.

No. I believe he only wants to play if he can be dominant no matter how that impacts the team.
That is what I am starting to think. I was seeing if that theory holds up..

It's really this all day

I hope Sion sees that and realizes how much of a pussy he’s been so far in his career. I just don’t think he cares. He’s making money regardless if he plays or not so he has no motivation to play. His endorsements pay him more than his Pels contract.

Klutch mouthpiece Shams really set the foundation that klutch client Fox was putting his health on the line with that broken finger that appears just fine.
