Cambridge: Anglo-Saxons aren’t real

Cambridge is teaching students that Anglo-Saxons did not exist as a distinct ethnic group as part of efforts to undermine “myths of nationalism”.
Britain’s early medieval history is taught by the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic, but the terms within its own title are being addressed as part of efforts to make teaching more “anti-racist”.
Its teaching aims to “dismantle the basis of myths of nationalism” by explaining that the Anglo-Saxons were not a distinct ethnic group, according to information from the department.
The department’s approach also aims to show that there were never “coherent” Scottish, Irish and Welsh ethnic identities with ancient roots.
The increased focus on anti-racism comes amid a broader debate over the continued use of terms like “Anglo-Saxon”, with some in academia alleging that the ethnonym is used to support “racist” ideas of a native English identity.

Madness.
These people are operating in a parallel plane of existence.

Are they going to bust up the ancient ethnic groups of sub-Saharan Africa next?

Duh.
They were TWO distinct groups, Angles and Saxons.

This seems biased and anti-scientific. I get that one must question, but "aims to show" seems nonsensical.
How about "Let's confirm, deny or find inconclusive" these long held (and largely proven, by the way) beliefs about just exactly how things shaped up on the British Isles from the earliest recorded history (pre-Roman and Roman periods) through the Anglo-Saxon "migrations", then the Viking period, the long struggle with France and so forth.
I mean, we kind of have a decent idea based on:
Written records
Archeological evidence going back more than 1000 years
DNA
Etc.

And everybody ALWAYS forgets the frickin' Jutes. Do you even "Kent", bro?
And the Frisians (but they were everywhere there was a port. ) They were the North Atlantic's version of Phoenicians.

Baby if you got the saxons I got the angles

Of course not. Those "black" people MUST and FOREVER be a monolithic group that thinks, acts, looks and, most importantly, votes exactly the same. That is because these people doing this nonsensical shite are racists.

THE WRATH OF THE AWAKENED SAXON
by Rudyard Kipling
It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late,
With long arrears to make good,
When the Saxon began to hate.
They were not easily moved,
They were icy -- willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the Saxon began to hate.
Their voices were even and low.
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show
When the Saxon began to hate.
It was not preached to the crowd.
It was not taught by the state.
No man spoke it aloud
When the Saxon began to hate.
It was not suddently bred.
It will not swiftly abate.
Through the chilled years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the Saxon began to hate.
"This destiny does not tire, nor can it be broken, and its mantle of
strength descends upon those in its service." - Francis Parker Yockey,
IMPERIUM

Cambridge: Anglo-Saxons aren’t real
And Vikings aren't real.
And Romans aren't real.
And the Normans aren't real.
And history isn't real.

quote:Well, the Angles and the Saxons were different Germanic tribes that migrated to different parts of Britannia at roughly the same time in history, and they maintained separate petty kingdoms once they got there, so there is definitely a distinction at one very early point in English history.
Anglo-Saxons did not exist as a distinct ethnic group
Is that the point that they are raising? Who knows, but does it matter? Their kingdoms all essentially merged a couple of centuries later into the early English monarchy under Aethelstan (sp?) and later Aelfred.

Everybody knows that the ancient English were black.

I mean, if we're talking UK nationalism, you'd have to throw in Gaels, Britons, Picts and Scots.

That article is terrible. Just a bunch of clickbait nonsense.

I guess it depends on how you define ethnic group or "race." The Anglos weren't a different "race" than people already in Britain, but they certainly were their own ethnic group and spoke a different language.
If anything you'd think they'd be promoting the Anglo-Saxons since they are "immigrants."

quote:Exactly! Along with the Jutes to a lesser extent. Later the Romans intermingled. Then the Vikings and Normans. So is the point Brits are European caucasoid mutts?
Well, the Angles and the Saxons were different Germanic tribes
