Christian Clark reports that in this article: LINK

He does not say how long the extension was for.

I expect Willie will get an extension soon also, this is the last year of his contract.

Two other nuggets in the article
quote:

Pelicans ownership extended Griffin’s contract in the spring, but in recent weeks, team president Dennis Lauscha has expressed frustration at the team’s lack of progress, sources told The Times-Picayune.
quote:

Behind closed doors, prominent voices within the organization began to openly question Ingram’s toughness, sources told The Times-Picayune.

Makes me wonder if all the smoke around Ingram and Zion earlier in the offseason was to get both of them to wake up.

I think that a lot of people have their futures on the line this season.

I think this season will be on the top 2 players. If they’re continually injured again or show an unwillingness to play through a little pain, then I could see them being shopped next offseason for the best packages possible.

I think coaching staff and FO will get a second chance as they’ve shown they can build a roster that competes, the health aspect of the two best players is all that’s holding it back. We will know this year if it was medical staff or if it’s the players.

Results from the changes may not be the whole story. I’m very happy Ingram is playing with Team USA. If SVG and PG13 are right, that should help harden Ingram for the season. If Ingram plays more than Zion, let’s hope they both make the Olympic team next year and are healthy enough to go.

David Griffin has not done a single thing to earn a contract extension. Unreal

As The Times-Picayune first reported in May, vice president of player care and performance Aaron Nelson was ousted in a department restructuring.

So is Nelson actually gone? The first report suggested a restructure that would make him want to quit rather than a straight up firing. This makes it sound like he's gone but technically an ousting could be a move elsewhere.

You can’t blame Griff for Zion and BI being continuously injured. He put a team together that was a top 3 seed before injuries last season.

I don’t. Willie has shown nothing from a scheme standpoint to deserve an extension. He hasn’t been able to get our best player to buy in either. Team fell apart in the second half of last year, quite frankly Willie is lucky he didn’t get canned.

I would assume this was a short extension to take some heat off and kick the can down the road. While you don't want the wrong GM in charge any longer than necessary, you also don't want any GM that feels they're on the hot seat. That's a recipe for disaster every time.

lol no

No coach is getting fired after 2 seasons where his best player misses around 130 games, and his 2nd best player misses a ton of time as well, and his 3rd best player is injured too.

You can blame Griff for the ultra conservative approach in dealing with each star since his arrival. This is brought up when talking about Embiid. When results and winning aren’t the number one priority of an organization, it creates an environment for star players to grow up in which allows for them to not always take the steps to be the best at all times.

Has done less with more than any gm I can think of and gets rewarded lol.

Better hope the last lakers pick turns into something, it won’t be this year and that last Bucks pick. Outside of BI and DD, has absolutely nothing to show for trading two all Star caliber players that won ships after he traded them…..
