Gotta say- maybe the former trainer knew what he was doing. I’m assuming he was let go this offseason.

I think he can get into that type of shape when he's focused in the offseason. His problem seems to be maintaining it. Seems to be more and more difficult for him as he ages.

Yeah but realistically he wasn’t that shape coming into media day. And if you can’t maintain it yourself, hire someone who can- sure have enough money for that.

Well at least he eventually got into shape by late November when he looked like that. And he was playing at an MVP type level.

You would have thought having a baby would make this fricking man child grow up.

Being in good shape is not easy. Being in elite shape is incredibly difficult. A very small % of people ever get close to their optimum condition. It's almost impossible to do it without a lot of assistance. The fact he has only trained half hearted and coasted on his genetic gifts is pretty amazing. It was always going to catch up with him eventually..

Last season before his injury might have been the closest to Duke Zion that we will ever see and may never see again

Lets be honest though. How many current NBA players have this problem?? Especially with all the resources in 2023. For NBA players being good/elite shape isn’t that difficult.

if he would just eat a high protein low carb diet and run everyday you’d see good results in him in 2 or 3 weeks.

Can you imagine running up and down a basketball court every single day for your job, and yet still gaining weight? Do you know how terrible your eating habits have to be to accomplish that?

He has to be eating several thousand calories a day to stay that big with as much as he does have to run already. He looks like he got stung by 100 bees.

As much as I hate Lebum he is a physical freak and trains and eats healthy.
He has a 2 week period after the season when he is just relaxing then he gets back in the gym and eating clean. That is why he is almost forty and can run circles around zion.
They are the same height and one ways 60 pounds more.....

Zion pics and certain angles make him look skinnier.

It's just varying degrees of being out of shape, I think the trainer has to talk himself and his role up but he's incorrect.

Meaning, Zion wasn't in good or ideal shape last season imo. But he was closer last season than he is right now.

The only time we've ever seen Zion in a Pels uniform and in good shape was rookie preseason Zion. We've never seen Zion play a meaningful game in good shape or the requisite conditioning he should be in.

Zion going into lat years camp was the best shape he’s been in as a pro.

This year he had a healthy offseason and came into camp fat .

There are no excuses for it. It’s lazy and unprofessional.

They used to be able to use angles to make him look slimmer. Can't even that this season.

if i’m Willie i’m playing him 35 or more minutes a game until
he either gets in shape or hurt. I hate saying that but you are paying a guy max money, getting a return in your investment is a must.

Dude could hire a full time chef, nutritionist and trainer for $400k/year which is pennies when you’re making $40m/year. Thats 1% of your salary. Thats equivalent to a guy making $200k a year spending $180/month on all that shite.

What sucks is that if Zion was teamed up with LeBron he would have hazed Zion into getting in shape and he probably would have exceeded the hype. We have no one on the roster that can do that to him. As great as CJ may be as a leader, he just doesn’t seem to be tough enough to do what needs to be done.

It’s a whole different conversation about how pathetic it is that Zion can’t motivate himself to do it on his own.

We were top of the west beating good teams and Zion was in the MVP talks just last year. The trainer isn’t wrong- he did his job.

I don’t agree with the whole he’s never been in good shape or conditioning as a pelican talk- he was a force in November/December just last year- we were even talking about how active he was getting on defense and leading his team to the top without BI. Thats all we’re asking for him to be. This Duke Zion stuff is bunch of BS. That won’t happen. But being the guy just a year ago is absolutely attainable.
