Maybe I'm a purist but I just don't find the need to dip my lure in a scent when bass fishing.

It feels like cheating to me. I fish for the challenge, not for food, so I don't mind if it means I catch less fish that way. The fun for me is making accurate casts, identifying and reading structure, and learning patterns for what the fish are after on any given day.

For that same reason I also don't fish with live bait and a popping cork when I fish salt water.

What about you guys? Yay or nay on the skunk juice?

I don't understand this sentiment at all. I mean, if you were in a tournament with a no scent rule, then yeah.

Then sounds like you should not use scents.

Have in the past, but have never found it makes any difference other than Gulp products for reds and flounder.

Those Gulp shrimp and swimming mullet are unreal. Trout I still feel if you are on them you are on them. But I have seen so many times especially on reds where I can't get any kind of response, toss a gulp and WHAM!

I've been there too. And because it's usually in shallow water, you KNOW they are there, but not interested.

And to clarify, I'm not talking shite to those that do use scent. Just curious how common it is.

I can understand not using live bait, but why no popping cork? The cork makes a sound like a Rebel Pop R, and keeps the bait at certain point in the water column.

It has a bigger impact in Satlwater.

I tested for years. Cant say I think it made any difference in Fresh water

Just something else to buy and something else for clients to make a mess with

Caught the biggest fish of my life using scent. Did it help? Was it luck? But she was a 16 pound hog. Full of eggs. Took my pictures and put her back in the water. That was a good time getting her to the boat.

Mostly just because I didn't grow up fishing salt and it makes for a strange casting feel, turning accuracy to shite.

Like I said, I'm a target fisherman, enjoy casting and running lures more than tossing out a Texas rig or a jig and slowly bumping it along. I know I probably miss out on fish that are hanging deeper or need to have the lure bounced off their nose, but I don't mind. I still catch enough fish to bring me happiness, which is why I'm out there.

I'll use scent, but its not my go to right off the bat. If the fishing is tough or the water is real dirty, then I have no problem using Gulp or adding Pro Cure.

Gulp just tears easily compared to other plastics and is a PITA if you leave one on a jig head and it dries out. Then Pro Cure is sticky as hell if you get it on your fingers or anything. So I'd rather not have to use it if I can get bites without it.

You're a target fisherman who'd rather run a crankbait than toss a worm in the perfect spot?

If you're fishing deep with a worm how do you know what the perfect spot is?

I'm on a kayak with no electronics.

I dont get enough time on the water to make it harder on myself. Pro cure and gulp work.

Crappie nibbles tipped on jigs makes a difference. Years ago I got that tip from this board, tried them out. Trolled two rods out, identical jigs, one with the crappie nibble and one without. The Crappie nibble significantly outperformed the other.

ETA- I also know that redfish really like Exudes.

I have tried scented soft plastics and still use them at times. I have also used the garlic dye. The problem with it that it doesn't just attract bass, it attracts every fish around so more often than not, i will catch a choupique or catfish before I catch a bass using anything scented.

Also I always seem to drip it on my damn carpet no matter how careful I am so i just don't use it anymore.

Because you don't use it enough. I can cast with a cork and drop it in a bucket 50 feet away 9 out of 10 times. It helps the accuracy.

I like butterflies

Not to be a dick but who cares what you think? Why would an adult feel the need to tell a forum what they like or don’t like?

I hate live scope but I’m not going to start a thread stating that.

What the frick dude?

What exactly do you think a FORUM is? Might want to look it up.

I'll help you out, It's a place to discuss things.

I asked a question because I was genuinely curious. If you scroll up and look a the title it's even worded to indicate the question pretty clearly.

I stated my opinion because that's how a discussion works.

You can rest assured that you are indeed being a dick. Saying "not to be a dick" doesn't absolve you of that. Unruffle your panties or go to the OT.

I’ve seen them work way too often not to keep a jar in my sacalait tackle bag.

Also can confirm Gulp juice makes a difference.
