Got to say Couoles. Didn’t he win a Players too?

All time, I think there are probably only 3 guys that have a solid argument. Kite, Gene Littler and Llyod Mangrum. GL and LM having 65 Tour wins combined and only 2 majors. Pretty wild to think you could be that good and only win one major.
On a "this guy had a short run that was crazy good" list David Duval would be up there. Between 1998and 2001 he was on fire and was really good in majors, he just unfortunately played when Tiger was on fire too.
Still active I'd probably give it to Sergio.

Wasn't Duval the last number one prior to Tiger taking that spot for like a 8yr run? Up to hitting a fire hydrant I believe.

If Maltbie could have pulled off that 87 Masters. Easily him.

Freddy.
If not for the lingering injuries he would’ve won more

Nah. He's definitely near the top of the discussion, but even if you take out some of the older guys that have a better claim (Littler and Mangrum), you have guys overlapping in his era that would have a better claim imo.
Freddy: 15 Tour wins, two players, 2 euro tour wins, and a long streak of made cuts at the Masters.
Tom Kite: 19 tour wins, 16 top 5's, 4 time runner ups. So close to winning numerous others.
Davis Love III: 19 tour wins, 2 players, 2 runner ups.
Ian Woosnam: 28 euro tour wins, euro tour order of merit, and reached #1 in the world.
I'd have Kite, Love, and maybe Woosnam over him. Personally, I'd have Duval over him as well. Duval's peak was much better than Freddy's, the dude had 12(!) top 11 finishes in a 4 year span with numerous runner ups. Unfortunately, he was born at the wrong time.
Edit: Just looking at some lists online, Tom Weiskopf has a good case as well. 16 tour wins, 4 runner ups, and 4 3rd place finishes. He knocked on the door a lot.

Yea either him or maybe Vijay? I think it was Duval though.

If you don't count euro tour wins as anything special, then yea he's out of the discussion as far as being above Couples. But just for a little perspective, Woosnam is 6th all time on the euro tour wins list, and Couples isn't top 50.
Quite a large amount of people think Monty is the best player to never win a major, and it's mainly based on how great his euro tour career was.
