Most relaxed day fishing ever

In the 1978 period my boat was a 14 foot fiberglass with a 25 hp motor and at noon on a Saturday got a sudden urge to go fishing near dad's camp at bayou salie. Hurry up and got to one of the bridges south of houma when the trailer popped off the hitch, no problem cause the safety chains kept the trailer in tow. Got to the launch about 3 pm and motored down to a favorite spot. Using bait threw out the first cast and immediately hooked a large redfish which ran and broke the line. Set up and threw it out again, and another big red ran and broke the line. Naturally the third cast resulted in no more line to fish with.
Sooo. I proceeded to kick back and drink the six pax of beer watching the sun go down. it was a a great day.

Never a bad day outdoors. I've often sat in a tree stand armed only with a book. But, I hope you've worked out your drag settings since then.

It was in the 1970s when most of us were wont to keep mono on a reel until it simply disappeared due to exposure to UV light....and we also tightened the drag down with a pair of pliers and fished with a rod that could be used as a pool cue in a pinch. Most of us weren't what one would call overly bright but we had a helluva time....

I've been seriously thinking about downgrading from my bay boat back to a small aluminum boat and returning to freshwater fishing with a few saltwater trips per year.
Hauling a bay boat for 6 hours round trip and not catching many fish is getting old.
I'd rather haul the boat 30-45 minutes, fish for 4-5 hours, and call it a day.

When I was in from 8th grade to 10 grade I'd go on a summer camping trip with our county extension agent to spend a week on Matagorda Island. It was rough tent camping with a hole in the ground for a latrine and only what we packed in or caught to eat. We'd work super hard the first day setting up tents and the camp because in the evenings we had free time to fish or explore. This one particular year, cedar bayou was flowing well and the tide was perfect so my best friend and I got our gear and waded right in. He being the more adventurous of the two of us ended up swimming completely across the cut to the other side so we could both fish the point.
Throwing our gold spoons in the setting sun fighting redfish and trout cast after cast not a care in the world other than wondering if my mom remembered to pack the seasoning for the redfish on the open grill that night...

Ya'll don't take a book with you every time you are in the stand???
As I've gotten older, I've found that I just go with how I feel in the woods. If I feel like hunting hard, I hunt hard. If I want to take a nap, I take a nap. One of the best naps I've ever had was leaned back against an old abandoned railway embankment in a low area.
My oldest is in the killing stage of hunting so I let him harvest the meat while I just relax and enjoy the day. I'll just sit and wait for something to walk by that makes it worth my while to shoot.

I discovered surf fishing some time back. Sitting listening to the surf under an umbrella or canopy with the breeze blowing, a few rods in a holder, music on a speaker or my headphones, reading possibly with a drink in hand is very therapeutic. If the fish are biting, even better.

happened to me once and my target buck came in at 15yds during the hunt
The next day I bought a wal mart special release, put in a zip lock and zip tied to my stand
still a very cool hunt though

That's about every Turkey hunt for me around midmorning. Backed up to a tree or hillside or maybe just laying on the edge of the field with the sun on my face. Greatest naps ever.

Same. I usually hike in and out to spots. So, my mentality is something really small and easier to drag out or something spectacular and worth dragging out. The rest can just go about their days, as I enjoy watching them do so

We had a camp on Anacoco lake when I was growing up. My grandmother and her sister would come out and fish on a peninsula my father built when he dredged a canal as to get the boat to the boat house when they let the lake down. Which back then seemed to be every other year. Anyway, they would come out and fish in the middle of the day in the summer sun with a bonnet and long dress and tear up the bream. They loved it, and I loved watching them.
