Friendly Sunday reminder that to slow down the surveillance state with them pushing everything digital you should be using more cash

He is exactly right. Can you imagine your return on investment if you laid down cash for your groceries and the store arrested you for shoplifting!!

Understand

That is why we have to change course and revert to making cash more commonly used again

You don’t even have to lay down exact change. Just lay down cash rounded up to the next dollar bill.

The only way this stops is if someone with FU money files a class action lawsuit.

Is it legal for a business in the United States to refuse cash as a form of payment?

quote:

There is no federal statute mandating that a private business, a person, or an organization must accept currency or coins as payment for goods or services. Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether to accept cash unless there is a state law that says otherwise.

Section 31 U.S.C. 5103, entitled "Legal tender," states: "United States coins and currency [including Federal Reserve notes and circulating notes of Federal Reserve Banks and national banks] are legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes, and dues." This statute means that all U.S. money as identified above is a valid and legal offer of payment for debts when tendered to a creditor.

It's only an offer of payment. There is no acceptance requirement in law.

I've started carrying a roll of quarters and a roll of dimes, so the equivalent of 15 bucks.

If I'm buying something small and they charge a 3% credit card fee, I start counting out change at the register.

Pro tip--a roll of quarters is still an excellent substitute for brass knuckles in a pinch.

This guy is wildly wrong. The store - any store - has the ability to deny you service if you don't pay in cash and their policy is not to accept cash. They can set practically any policy they want as long as it doesn't run afoul of discrimination laws (see: stupid places enforcing face masks).

If you somehow end up owing them money, then yes they'd have to accept cash to settle a debt, but no place is under any obligation to serve you coffee if they don't accept cash in the store and you refuse to pay with a card.

I have long since quit supporting establishments that don't take cash. I even use their language against them. The blue haired barista that refuses cash is left stumped when I call them classist.

I use cash every single chance that I get. Which is almost always.

That is all anyone needs to hear.

No, China uses it for esg scores. If we use cash the big banks don't get their 3%. We are shifting back to a cash society from what I can see. I'm not paying them 3%.

Practically speaking this makes sense. Less opportunity for theft from attendant.

You would think so but it appears that some in this very thread are more concerned with the foothold that the surveillance state currently has in place

My plea is to use more cash to push back against them

So I assume your approach is lay down and take it with no pushback at all?

Cool

Thanks for stopping by

This is exactly what I've been noticing. Went out to a local KC craft brewery yesterday and they would only take debit or credit card, been that way awhile, however, you could tip with cash.

The gas stations have fixed the employee theft problem with machines that take your cash. My vet (2 dogs) takes cash and credit but no checks. Too many have bounced. I like to pay by check when it's over $100.
