Anyone give DirecTV the boot today?

I know it’s largely Disney’s fault, but I don’t really care because both of these companies are making big profits. Greed from both sides is motivating this stalemate, and the consumers are the ones being punished for it.
I’m in a 2-year contract with DirecTV for the internet version of the service (not the satellite). I’m thinking there will be about a $300 early cancellation fee if I cancel. Is it possible that I can get them to waive these fees since I’m no longer getting the content I signed up for since ABC and all the ESPN networks are gone?
It feels like a breach of contract on their part since I don’t have access to any of that content that I signed up for. What can they do if I don’t pay the early cancellation fees? Will they report it to the credit bureaus? Will they just ban me for life from DirecTV until I pay the cancellation fees?
Anyone else cancel DirecTV early and how did it go for you? Did you pay the fees?

I gave them the boot years ago. I remember them offering something crazy like 6 months free & Sunday Ticket. I can’t imagine what they’re offering now.

I am ready to drop xfinity. For 2 weeks now we’ve had zero service for internet, tv, and mom’s landline phone starting at 2-4 every morning and lasting until at least 9am, sometimes till noon or after.
The only reason I have not switched already is the stupid alarm. With att the service doesn’t provide alarm monitoring and neither does spectrum. I don’t need the alarm but mom is afraid of her own shadow.
We’d have to set up a separate alarm and arrange monitoring. ADT already literally cost us a house when thieves and vandals ruined our other house and ADT kept billing for months without ever alerting us the system was not functioning due to the equipment being ripped off the walls and floating in the water when the criminals cut the water pipe for the brass.
The bill should drop when she passes and I eliminate cable, telephone, and alarm just going to continue internet.
Service companies billing for services not provided is the norm now.

I want to, but the wife just can't let it go. We actually had a little fight about it last night. I am sick of wasting the money just for a few shows she likes to watch. Even though most of what she watches can be found elsewhere, she's not budging. "It's too hard to try and figure out where I can watch my shows".
It's rare I ever watch anything on DirectTV, but college football was one of them. Signed up for YouTube TV last night.

Good luck getting them to answer the phone. Lots of pissed off folks lining up to cancel.

I canceled them two years ago once Starlink was available. Satellite internet is horrible. Starlink has been amazing

I contacted an ATT agent via chat last night and demanded a credit to my account. They gave me $30.

I got the same as well with DirecTV Stream. What people don't realize is that this is coming to YTTV, Hulu and Sling as well once they are in contract renewal negotiation with Disney so they are throwing a tantrum like 3 year olds. Disney is trying to force bundles on the carriers. I have yet to see any of these fight back and they just raise their prices to the consumers.

I had Spectrum for years and the same thing happened last year; I was tuned in for opening night of CFB on Thursday night and they dropped the channels right at kickoff. I immediately went to the Spectrum store the next day and canceled my TV service (kept the internet) and signed up for YTTV and haven't looked back. I'm kicking myself for not making the switch sooner.
I'm a very old school kind of person so not having cable TV seemed like such a foreign concept but YTTV is essentially the exact same thing. You still have a channel guide to flip through, you still have all your familiar channels you like, you can still record shite you like. There really isn't that much difference overall/

Yep. Disney is going to do this to all of them, including You Tube TV, someday.
I have DirectTV Stream and it has been great. This isn't their fault, this is Disney's fault. I'll wait it out for a couple of weeks. There are other ways to watch sports.

You are right. But if DirectTV just folds, they will pass the increase off to the consumer. That's how these things work. If they feel like they paying/charging a fair price, then they will fight for a fair contract. That's just how it is and all content providers will deal with it from all networks at some point.

Get control of your wife and household man. Just cut it and not tell her.

Figure it out for her, and set it up. My brother's soon to be ex-wife is this way, so he's been paying through the nose for DirecTV for years.

Did you think that S.E.C. TV rights contract was going to be free?

I booted them probably five or six years ago

Depends on what you signed when you signed up. There likely is verbiage saying channels can go at any time or something of the sort.

This is something that YTTV does very poorly. And kills the deal for me.

I had them for a while and really didn't have many issues at all. But for what I want to watch I can get something like YouTubeTV for $25 cheaper a month. Plus, like here in Baton Rouge we haven't had the local NBC channel for close to 2 years now because of some ongoing dispute. I almost switched over before the Olympics because of that but the ESPN thing pushed me to go ahead and do it.

Waht I said was that "there really isn't that much difference", and I stick by that. Sure the layout is differerent and takes another click or two, and personally I do like the ease of the recording library from cable. But that's small potatoes. If I want to record a show, I can do so then watch it again later on both YTTV and cable. That's the actually important part of it, the interface of how it looks retrieving it doesn't relaly matter much, IMO>

Cool. My option was go to YTTV (or otherwise) or keep Spectrum and not be able to wtach CFB so the decision was an easy one for me.
