Excerpt:

Germany’s spending plan, equivalent to around $1.08 trillion, has drawn cheers across a continent unnerved by signs that the U.S. is downgrading its security commitment to Europe and seeking a rapprochement with President Vladimir Putin’s Russia, which is seen as the region’s biggest threat.

“Berlin is breaking the piggy bank, and it’s doing it even before the next government is in office,” said François Heisbourg, a Paris-based expert on strategy and defense who has advised the French president. “Germany is giving itself the means to become a military force to match its economic and strategic weight. That’s a sea change.”

We've seen this before. It all starts bad for Europe and ends badly for Germany.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

They no longer have the industrial base to project power and €1T isn’t going to fix that, particularly in the face of their green initiatives and below replacement rate aging productive population.

They are a dying nation both culturally and economically and everyone can see it.

The US should never be primary support for Europe. I can understand secondary or tertiary. We need to focus on North, Central and South America and build alliances here.

Apparently back in the day when Germany was serious about doing this, France threatened to leave NATO.

I don't care about them doing this, other than the fact theyve been importing 3rd world muzzies. Our biggest threat is moslims with German military innovative might including nukes.

What do we do with our bases there?

Two straight years of their economy contracting, so not surprised they want an ambitious spending plan to try and jump start it. But their ridiculous energy policy will keep them mired in no or anemic growth.

Where is Germany going to get the funding from? And all Russia would have to do is cut their energy. This sounds more like posturing or worse, self-assured destruction.

All of Europe is importing radicalized jihadi goat frickers at an unprecedented volume, and the region's number one threat is Russia?

Good. How much are they going to send to Russia for all the energy to build this infrastructure?

Nothing but empty bluster and half of it will be eaten by the inefficiencies of the European Union. Germany is a shell of its former self and couldn’t field a competent military force to remotely threaten Russia

Good on them. Albeit, the Socialist/Fascist Nazis may be making a comeback, just not with the 'White Nationalist' base. They are Transnational Progressives now, which will likely end up being worse than the 1938 version.

Sounds like Germany has a trillion dollars to spend.
