Is Jerome Powell the single most powerful man in the world?

With how fragile everything is right now, his decisions hold as much weight, if not more than any world leaders from an economic standpoint. His power is practically unchecked too. Kinda crazy to think about
Whether you criticize or praise him at least he acts mature with his power

On a superficial level maybe. He's not up there talking like a juvenile gangster. I'll concede that. But his decision to lower the rate before the election based on information that has consistently gotten more favorable for a rate drop after the election, but his refusal to lower rates more than proves he's injecting his political bias into his decision making.

The willful ignorance is what kills me in these discussions. Inflation is a lagging indicator; you set rates more on trajectory than you do what the current inflation number is. Back in September, November, and December, the trajectory of the inflation rate was cooling. Since then, the trajectory has either been stagnant or heating. Yet, somehow, people keep parroting that "inflation was higher then!!!" and ignoring both that the trajectory was better than AND that the rate was 100bp higher than it is now. Apparently, according to them, we should cut rates 50bp every Fed meeting as long as the rate of inflation is lower than it was in September. I'm looking forward to quickly reaching negative rates

But, but, but those egg prices!
Nevermind that many Americans can't even think about affording to purchase beef now.
Meanwhile, the market is happy because the Chinese tariff can got kicked down the road once again.

Well, there sure is plenty to fault this term.

Cattle inventory has been declining since 2019, so you can add Trump to your list.
Also of note, Trump opened our beef market to Australia which I’m sure will help.

I've said before I was no fan of Biden.

I had a really good steak at a restaurant that was prepared a certain way so I wanted to try it at home. Three high quality steaks would have cost me like $75 so I gave up on my experiment. This has gotten as ridiculous as crawfish prices can be sometimes

Yeah beef prices have creeped up a good bit. I go to Sam’s every Sunday and basically decide what I’m going to meal prep for the week based on meat prices while I’m there. The price of their pack with three ribeyes has gone up about 30-35% over the last three years.
