Any Luck Using Real Tarsal Glands To Attract Buck In Different Area

I killed a buck this evening and wondering if any of yall had luck using real tarsal glands to attract bucks in a different area? I’m talking about maybe 5-20 miles away, not from north Louisiana to south Louisiana.
Old timers when I was a kid would cut them and hang them around their stand but don’t really remember them killing much.
I’d assume it would depend on the temperament of bucks where you introduce the glands to.
If you have had success, how’d you use them? Just hang them in tree nearby? Did you call/rattle also? Thanks!

Wise man I used to work with would hunt on the ground. Hang tarsals around him on branches, grunt, rattle, kick up leaves. Every buck hanging on his living room walls was killed this way.

Where was he hunting? I've never heard of anyone in Louisiana having success doing that.

I was on the River in Mississippi one morning and set up in open hardwoods along the edge of a two year old cutover with high grass. I rattled and called in a group of three bucks that circled me like sharks. When they’d get downwind of me and get skittish, I’d snort wheeze and they’d calm back down. This went on for at least five minutes. All of the bucks appeared to be three years old and just under club requirements. It can work in the Deep South, but you need to setup where you can cover downwind and isn’t very effective in areas on intense pressure.

I hung a rank tarsal cut off a 3.5 year old buck once on a lease off hwy 10 in west Feliciana parish in front of a cam tracker camera back in the 90’s. Checked it the following weekend and had 3 pics taken in 6 days. A brown cow, a button buck and a coyote. So I’ve never used one while hunting after seeing that.

I’ll tag onto this post, how many LA/MS hunters use doe pee, like Tinks, Code Blue, etc? Since I’m sure the rain washed away all their marks, I hung a couple of wicks for grins this afternoon where I’ve seen a lot of does. Interested to see if it works.

Saw it happen twice in Louisiana. Back in the 80’s, I bought some little white bottle with an Indian’s picture on it (don’t recall the brand). I put that stuff in a semi circle around my ladder stand on the way in. A 1.5 year old spike walked right up to almost every spot it was applied. Same thing happened the following season but it was a different spike, I think?

Got a buddy who collects them and stores in a tote with his hunting clothes. He has good luck rattling in S Alabama when rut kicks off.
Dudes a straight up killer on deer and turkey.

He better be a killer if he smells like tarsal glands all the time. No one would want him near a restaurant!!!

He never wears those clothes in a restaurant, gas station etc. They go back in the tote.

Rub them hocks on your boots and clothes. Kinda like the smell after awhile

My uncle used to kill mature bucks on his place with em. He would wait until everything was perfect wind rut etc but was a great hunter for mature deer
