I hit a drive thru yesterday and my total was $18.91. I gave the kid a $20 dollar bill and a penny. He said sir your order is $18.91 do you have ninety one cents? I said no, I gave you $20.01 so I'd get back a dollar and a dime instead of getting a dollar and 9 cents. I could see the lightbulb turn on above his head at that moment. Ohhh, I see.

What the hell are they teaching kids nowadays?

What do you expect? They can’t even read cursive that takes 30 minutes to learn.

The 16 year old taking your order at McDonald's has lived his whole life letting a screen tell him answers. You paying $20.01 for your order can understandably be confusing.

Seems like I have been explaining this concept for at least a decade.

Does old woman screams at clouds have a meme?

That one person represents a whole generation?

I am pretty sure communicating with a no so bright fast food worker doesn't define current times.

I agree and I don't GAF that pennies are going away.

If you graduate from high school you should be good enough at basic fricking arithmetic to know that 2001-1891 = 110.

If you have a smartphone at all you have a calculator that can do it for you

What exactly is the justification for not knowing how to work a basic app that does the job for you??

Hell I stopped at Canes in Denham Springs today. Ordered a Caniac to split with my son. They gave me 5 pieces of chicken. As expensive as they are I marched inside and got my 6th piece of chicken. It’s not that hard to count chicken fingers or is it?

I had an issue with a Dominos order before I even picked it up recently and was talking to the guy on the phone about a refund. He agreed to cancel the order due to not having some of the ingredients. When I asked him if i would be getting some kind of confirmation about the cancellation and refund he told me, "I don't know I am only 18. "

It was as if he didn't care to learn. I can't imagine telling anyone, "I am only 18" if I worked somewhere and did not know the answer to a question. I would say hold on let me check. I would want to find out and know. I wouldn't just say I am only such and such age.

Absolutely crazy. It made me somewhat concerned for younger people of today. Hopefully he doesn't represent the majority.

This has mystified cash register folks all my life, so it’s not just young people.

One of my first high school jobs taught me how to make change. We had no mechanical register to calculate it. We counted it back, often with no idea of the amount we were giving the customer, but the counting back process guaranteed it would be right every time.

Last year I went to Canes to pickup a tailgate box. They kept checking the back and telling me there was no order for MILs name to be ready at 3pm. Finally a manager came back and said I found it, someone wrote the name down 1 letter off. Never occurred to the kids looking that maybe that exact order, at that exact time, with a name one letter off would be the order they were looking for?
