According to a source close to Simpson, Miami sent the Alabama quarterback an offer to be the highest-paid player in college football at $6.5 million. The Hurricanes' official offer started at $4 million and quickly ballooned to $5 million within minutes before reaching the current offer.

In 2025, Simpson's base salary at Alabama was $400,000, according to a source close to Simpson. It doubled to $800,000 with incentives.

Wild times.

College football has lost its way

Article also says Ole Miss offered $4MM, which seems crazy.

I don’t buy that, Ole Miss would never tamper like that.

None of this is true I reckon.

Anyone who believes any of this will also believe that I motorboated Sydney Sweeney for a solid half hour last night too.

Getting closer..
They're throwing around terms like "base salary" for a reason.
Wont be long until the "student athletes" aren't even students anymore, but rather just another name on the payroll next to the professors and the janitors

So they are offering more than the NFL now. I don’t buy that #

It's not that hard to believe. Have you been keeping up with just how stupid cfb has gotten with this shite? This is easily believable in the current cfb landscape. "Salaries" are going to keep going up and up.

Whoa! Just a gol darned minute. I thought I read a year or two ago that the only thing NOT on the table with the NIL nonsense was rewards for playing well. If Incentives are not rewards for playing, what are they?
Oh, he didn't get arrested in Miami or Miami Beach this week? That's good for 1K.
Oh, he didn't gain weight this week? He didn't get caught in bed with a boy or a dead girl? (With credit to our late Gov. Edwin Edwards)
What other non-playing incentives are out there worth hundreds of thousands of dollars?
With a tone of bitterness from the sparse money from graduate teaching assistantships.

Janitors are necessary. Professors are replaceable for undergrads.
Quarterbacks are going to be a lesson for this decade.

I have no problems at all with these contracts. My problem is there is no buyout for the schools that lose players or letting guys transfer an unlimited number of times with no consequences.
Imagine if other sport leagues just let you go wherever you want every year.

Yes it is. NFL teams have 55 players, college is 85. There are 32 nfl teams and 136 FBS teams.
Where is the money coming from? Companies aren’t going to just sponsor these kids without a decent business reason. Not to mentions a huge chunk of football schools have NIL to share with their basketball programs. Charlotte Mercedes has to choose between UNC basketball or UNC football.
Anyone acting like there’s all kinds of people with $1 mil to throw away a year are out of their minds.
Maybe the top 5-10 are getting tons of money, but at some point fairly quickly once you get below the bottom 250 players or so that moneys running dry with a quickness.

Beck got alot of $$$ from Miami so I wouldn’t be surprised. The U probably needs a AB. Not sure who backup is.

giving up a prime nfl year of career for 6.5 million is a bit of a gamble. a gamble i wish i had the luxury of choosing between.

Has Simpson entered the portal? I didn’t realize he officially did.

This guy was a loser by Alabama standards. Why would Miami want him?
