SI article

quote:

Longstreet is originally from Louisiana and has a desire to return to roots and play in the SEC. He built a relationship with Kiffin when he was at Ole Miss and has a high level of trust in the Tigers coach and offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr.

quote:

Originally coming out of high school, Longstreet was interested in LSU, but they held a commitment from the Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, before he flipped to Michigan a month before the early signing period. Auburn was another SEC program that was in the picture, but Longstreet committed to Texas A&M and held that pledge for seven months before he flipped to USC just weeks before signing.

quote:

Oregon was a school that was in contact with the former Trojans quarterback and instead of taking a trip to Eugene, Longstreet chose to visit Baton Rouge and stayed the entire weekend, instead of visiting anywhere else.

quote:

Longstreet was expected to play in the Trojans loss to TCU in the Alamo Bowl. He played in four games during the regular season and could play in the bowl game and not have it count against his eligibility, but did not record a single snap.

quote:

There was a big disconnect growing between Longstreet and the coaching staff, as far as what the quarterback situation what the look like in 2026 in the multiple meetings they had after the bowl game. Per sources, Jayden Maiava is set to make double in NIL compared to Longstreet, despite the staff saying it’s an open competition.

quote:

But the decision to enter the portal wasn’t about Longstreet asking for more money or fear of competition or him having to sit and wait for another year. He no longer felt USC was being honest with him. Longstreet was told there would be a competition but felt what he was being told did not match their actions. The trust was gone for Longstreet with USC was gone as the two sides were not seeing eye-to-eye, and he no longer saw his future in Los Angeles, sources close told me.

quote:

Longstreet doesn’t mind being the No. 2 quarterback,

quote:

Longstreet was told they were still targeting Leavitt when he was in Baton Rouge, and Leavitt has since committed to the Tigers.

quote:

Longstreet has four years of eligibility remaining, and he wants to be at school that he trusts

This is amazing info, thank you for compiling this for us.

If we land him I’m comfortable with the QB room.

Please make this happen. We need a stacked QB room. It’s so much better having competent offensive minded coaches. We are set up for instant and future success with this signing

We need to get him to commit, build up his and/or Clark’s stock, and then trade him to Tennessee next offseason. I kid of course, but with the insanity of college football rules, that may actually happen in the future.

Longstreet to LSU would cause a wormhole to form to contain all the melts from other SEC programs.

That would be incredible if he comes. All very positive things said about him there and pretty good insight into why he was unhappy with the situation at USC. I have to imagine he’s confident in his abilities to win the job after Leavitt leaves.

Killer. Imagine blowing out scrub teams by 60 points and your QB2 plays the entire 2nd half …

We have to get the Harper OL kid from Old Piss, and I'd love to get the OL Seaton, but I think the Steers & Queers from Texas will give him the rights to an oil well; it's going to be expensive. Maybe the OL Brooks from Texas if we can't land Seaton.

Wow, this is huge. I've seen all of these reasons being said or written as to why Longtreet wouldn't be coming to LSU after Leavitt signed. Understandably, it's normally the M.O. of every benched 5-star that enters the portal.

quote:

Longstreet doesn’t mind being the No. 2 quarterback,

It's becoming clearer this is a team player, not a diva.

quote:

Longstreet has four years of eligibility remaining

A 5-star talent with La. roots who has 4 years of eligibilty, reasonable enough to understand he might be the #2 QB after competing??? Holy hell. This is a perfect portal prospect for Lane.

I was thinking like the previous regime man we can probably only get one or the other…our new coach is a savage and says I’ll take both
