Oklahoma State lost 64 in the portal. They also have 16 coming from their recruiting class and 49 in the portal.

Over 4,700 Division I players entered the portal in the first week alone.. That's roughly 25% of FBS rosters in free agency mode

TJ Finley just joined his 7th college team.

Ty Simpson never even entered the portal but still fielded offers: up to $6.5 million from Miami. I like TY but he was not even a Heisman finalist and did not play well at the end of the season.

I do not know a certain answer but there has to be reasonable controls on how often and when the portal is available,

When Congress passes an anti-trust exemption specific to college athletics and/or colleges acknowledge they are employees and agree to a CBA with rules

We literally had a coach leave a playoff team before the playoffs began

If you know you are not a good enough coach it is the honorable thing to step aside.

How are UT, A&M, UTSA, UH, Texas Tech etc etc etc going to agree to a CBA when they are barred by Texas Law from entering into collective bargaining contracts or recognizing unions as bargaining agents

I don’t have the answer to your question but congress intervention is coming for good or bad.

A team that went 1-11. They got beat by Tulsa. Where do those 64 players even go?

Texas isn't the only one. Much of the Southeast outright bans collective bargaining with public employees, or if they allow it at all, it's very limited in scope (firefighters, cops).

Sure, each state could pass legislation to carve out college athletes, but that isn't going to be a quick or easy process.

As a coach I wouldn't even know where to begin to navigate all this and what players to try and keep for what price, who to go after and how much you should offer to get that player but also not overpay. It has to be a huge headache that could cause many roster problems where you end up being horribly short on talent and numbers at certain positions.

Well, some of them get paid as much as eight figures to figure it the frick out, so they should be able to handle it.

Either Texas will need to change their law (“Texas schools get your state to change its law or enjoy being part of the Texas college football league”) or the federal government preempts it as part of its legislation.

It’s going to require something at the federal level regardless. Both because the anti trust rules are federal and because the states will continue to just race to the bottom trying to give their schools an edge.

You act like this is the first time it happened. Kelly left ND before their playoff game to go to LSU.

Not a good look for LSU there

Why are you using a team that fired it's HC midway through the year as an example? No shite they lost a ton of guys in the portal. They didn't sign up to play w/the current staff.

I think more states than not would need to change their laws. Most of the Big 12, SEC and ACC are going to be subject to this issue.

Does Congress have the authority to force states to collectively bargain with state employees?

He was prohibited by his school to coach Ole Miss once he went to LSU. That’s on Ole Miss.

How many players went into the portal from teams making the NCAA and still playing when the portal opened? I know. Do you? Is that okay?

So stop it with your Kiffen hate. The whole situation is a joke.

Didn’t that Notre Dame team not make it?
