Wow. It's time for them to flush this government.

They are just codifying what is already happening

For those that don’t want to watch the video what is this about? Is this something new?

It is always new. They attempt to push this stuff further each week.

If this is about the British Online Safety Act it was passed in 2023. Trying to figure out what’s new that’s being used as rage bait.

Snowden already exposed this happening right here in the USA.
People still want to believe we're living in anything other than an omnipotent surveillance state with the illusion of liberty.

Did the patriot act not do the same thing here in America? That was 25 years ago, you’re a fool if you don’t believe the US government has all your texts stored and a profile for you already.

Lord Hanson of Flint, who is steering this awful mission, recently confirmed the Government expects Ofcom to exercise these powers swiftly, in fact he “set a date of April 2026”.
Now you know. Keep posting whataboutism.

This, raking the UK over the coals while ignoring Palantir’s doings in the US takes some serious mental gymnastics

They have lobbied for years to get Apple/Google/Facebook to open up text messages for them to scan, but as far as I know, all of them have refused (with Apple being the most vocal). Apple has already shut down encrypted iCloud backups for UK users after the UK basically forced them to do so.
Here's what Grok says:
It seems the UK is in a bind. Apple and Google provide jobs in the UK, so if they leave, it would hurt the economy. And it is not simple for Apple/Google to simply open up messages in one country and not another. I will let Grok explain:
This is all correct. You cannot "backdoor" encryption without fundamentally breaking it for everyone. And if you do it in the UK, suddenly every other country will want it too.
Here's what Grok says:
quote:
Apple and Google (along with WhatsApp and Signal) have publicly stated they would rather withdraw their services from the UK than weaken encryption for all users. So far, the UK government has not pulled the trigger on a final order that would force them to leave.
It seems the UK is in a bind. Apple and Google provide jobs in the UK, so if they leave, it would hurt the economy. And it is not simple for Apple/Google to simply open up messages in one country and not another. I will let Grok explain:
quote:
The "Backdoor" is a Global Key
Apple’s core argument is that there is no such thing as a "local" backdoor.
Technical Integrity: Encryption is based on mathematical protocols. If Apple writes code that allows the UK government to bypass encryption, that code becomes a permanent vulnerability.
The "Slippery Slope": If Apple builds a decryption tool for the UK, every other country—including China, Russia, and the US—will immediately demand the same access. Apple would have no legal or moral ground to refuse them once the technology exists.
This is all correct. You cannot "backdoor" encryption without fundamentally breaking it for everyone. And if you do it in the UK, suddenly every other country will want it too.

How about getting up off your dead arse and watching the video instead of cross examining everyone in the thread about it?
I mean jeez, how fricking lazy can you get?

The phone companies that you use store texts. The government just needs a court order to access.

I’d say it’s lazy to just post a video in the OP. Videos are such an inefficient way to get information and I’m not going to spend however much time it takes for a YouTube griftfluencer to try to explain it.

So if what you say is true, what’s to be gained by questioning other parties…who watched the video?
