I finally accept Zion just isn't that good

For his entire career, I thought the only thing holding him back was injury, weight and maturity.
Now it's become clear, he's just not good enough in the modern NBA that relies on 3 pointers and FT attempts, which he is bad at both.
He doesn't shoot 3s and he's officiated poorly and is a mediocre FT shooter when he does get there.
I didn't watch last night's game but the dude had 12 points against a Jokic-less Nuggets team.
Unacceptable.
He can't take over games because he won't get calls late and refuses to shoot enough from outside the paint even though he's very good at that little pull up.
He's only going to get worse from here as his athleticism declines.
He was a unique prospect that came to the game a generation late. If you can't shoot 3s, you better get to the line a ton like Ja or SGA. He doesn't and his lack of height and spacing is impossible to build around considering his D is hit or miss.
I finally accept that it will never happen. Not here or anywhere. At best, he goes to a contender as a bulldozer 6th man off the bench to get the other team's bigs in foul trouble.
I do not think he'll be an All Star on the Warriors or Bulls, etc. but he will get calls he didn't here.
Oh well.

Meanwhile, we saw a true superstar last night beat us.
WIth 7 minutes left we were up 1.
in those 7 minutes, Jamal Murray was responsible for 18 of his teams 21 points, scoring 12 himself
Zion came in with 6 minutes left.
in those 6 minutes he missed a layup, had a turnover, missed another layup, and missed a put back tip in. 0 points.
They've got to trade him right now while he looks like he has some meaningful value.

Even if INJURY or WEIGHT or MATURITY were holding him back, it would be significant.
But all three and then....
But all three and then....

He’s one dimensional on a team with one three point threat. He just isn’t a good fit here.
Put him on a team with a bunch of shooters and he would be entertaining as hell.

Fat Pouty Boy forcing lefty layups is not entertaining no matter where he plays tbh

I mean, he was that good. At one point, he really was an MVP-caliber player when he was actually on the court. Somehow, he's not nearly as good anymore. Was the weight loss actually a negative? Have the injuries taken a toll on his athleticism? It's hard to say why this has happened.
But yeah, he now at the level of "pretty good player." It certainly doesn't look like he could ever make another all-star game.

He’s going to be really bad in 4-5 years when his athleticism starts fading.
He’s still really good around the basket at the moment.
With that said, it’s about all I can say nice about him.

This is his 3rd best ts% season. He's scoring just fine.
Theres several reasons Zion isn't as good, the main one being borrego isn't building the offense around him and rightly so.
Other reasons: he doesn't have cj. Zion and CJ were lethal together.
Herb and naji aren't there to clean up his shite defense anymore either. The team around him isn't as good as it was.

He will always have a good shooting percentage. However, it's literally the only thing he is good at, and even that is getting worse in the sense that he's not even getting to the basket as much.
His handles and defense are all getting worse and will continue as he gets older/flabbier.
He's a one note player, it's a very good note, but not good enough to ignore everything else about him. If that's all he can do, which has been the case since he came in because he refused to really add anything to his game, it makes him damn near impossible to build around, even if he was healthy for the majority of his time here.

It’s pretty simple..if he wants it bad enough, he’d call David West, ask him what drills he did over and over and over again to repeatedly drain that elbow jumper.
Then, he’d bring his arse to the gym every morning and evening, with a ball boy, and do that drill, repeatedly. Until it was absolute muscle memory.
And if not, fugg it, it’s cool.
At this point, which one do you think he’s going to pick?
Trade him to Memphis for Jarren Jackson and Cedric Coward, hell I’d even throw in whatever pick we had that they wanted if it guaranteed me those 2 players, especially Coward.
Dejounte/Fears/Alvarado
Hawkins/Poole
Coward/Jones/Bey
Murphy/Queen
Jackson/Missi
Now that’s a squad.

You have terrible analysis of how nba trades work. Im sick of this shite

He's a fringe star at best, and I think he's actually regressing more and more as teams learned how to stop his drives for a left handed layup. He's not in bad shape right now either. It's a lack of skill.

Thats not really true either, Zion is a very gifted passer, point Zion was a real threat, we just dont do it nearly as much anymore (not enough 3pt shooting around him)

He just dribbled it off of his leg reading this.

He’s really not though, it’s just that we have a bunch of dudes open… any NBA player can do that if 3-4 defenders are clogging the lane.
Posted on 1/15/26 at 7:30 am to Broski
They are open because every team tells their bigs and 3's to stand in the paint against Zion because refs won't call them for a 3 second violation. It's something that AD has been bringing up during broadcasts. His on ball defender stands 3 feet off and everyone around the paint literally stays there for whole possessions.
If NO players made their jump shots then the Pels would be close to a low playoff seed. They REALLY need a Duncan Robinson or Beasley type of player to make this roster work better.

The fact we’d have to be really efficient to just maybe be a playin teams shows you just how much Zion and the FO failed this franchise

There's a difference between passing to an open player and hitting a guy in the chest off a dribble for an easy catch and shoot.
