Gotta do something to get ratings in the off-hurricane season

They do that so insurance companies can rake in that named storm deductible.

It’s so northerns can feel cool. They are jealous of our named hurricanes.

Isn't that just some of The Weather Channel's silliness? I've never heard anybody besides them call winter storms by name.

The Euros have been naming winter storms for a while. Their winter storms can be the equivalent of a Cat 2 hurricane. This cold the US has been having has apparently supercharged the warm water of the Gulfstream and is wreaking havoc in the UK.

About the same time that the Weather Channel quit playing Kenny G over a forecast screen and Locals on the 8's.

Only The Weather Channel does that. The National Weather Service doesn’t name winter storms.

It started with Super Storm Sandy and never stopped. Have to show climate change is causing disaster by naming everything and creating a higher level Hurricane Rating to scare folks and get ratings.

2012, about 14 years ago.

AI overview:

The Weather Channel began officially naming winter storms in the United States during the 2012–2013 season to improve communication regarding significant snow and ice events. While some local stations used names earlier, TWC’s initiative, starting with "Athena" in October 2012, brought widespread media attention to the practice.

Who Names Them: The Weather Channel selects names from a pre-determined, alphabetical list of 26 names.

Official Status: The National Weather Service does not officially recognize these names and does not use them in their products.

When the fear mongers started using the feel like temps rather than real temps to justify "climate change" arguments.
