Everyone knows the story and have seen myriad hours of footage or docs, etc. But this one brings all the Olds in one more time and it's incredible. I was 9. And I still get goosebumps and butterflies remembering a house full of little boys running around like we knew any of the rules.
Coolest thing to me is Michaels talking about the first time in his sports life he ever heard the chant USA USA USA... it was Lake Placid during the Czech game in pool play. And it got louder every game.
Y'all will enjoy it

Can you imagine the amount of emotional damage it did to Herb when his dad said they cut the right guy after the 1960 won gold with Herb being the last guy cut?

Man. What a ride Herb had. Even got a silver in SLC after all those years.

Really enjoyed it. It was sad that Brooks wouldn’t get close to any of the players because of all of the tough decisions he had to make.

You are absolutely correct.

The Minnesota Gopher w a no-name band is one of if not the greatest folklore stories in our athletic history. GD incredible.
And then, wow, LA 84 Summer and we absolutely obliterate the planet in the games. Olympic and USA pride was fricking blowing the roof off

It was awesome! The emotion those guys showed when watching old footage gave me goose bumps.

My first inclination was to skip it, because we've already seen so many documentaries/stories about the team. But reading this thread makes me want to check it out, thanks.

Michaels had quite a run in the 80s. Called the Miracle on Ice in '80, Hagler-Hearns in '85, and Red Sox-Angels Game 5 in '86. (ranked by MLB countdown as #8 in best baseball games ever). Unreal.

Michaels is the best. It will be a sad day when he finally retires.

Excellent documentary. Having Herb’s kids on to speak about him was such a great move. I thought the whole thing was very well done. It really did justice to one of the all time great sports stories.

And he ended the Decade with this:

Ken Morrow won an olympic gold on that team in 1980, joined the NY Islanders right after the Olympics (drafted in 1976) and won 4 straight Stanley Cups from 80 to 83. Pretty good run.

Forgot about that one. Good call.

It was driving me crazy who the local young newscaster with the long mustache was, shown 3-4 times.>
Matt Lauer
The doc is great.
Play your game!

Sadly, we won’t ever see a moment like this again. The country is divided and will not unite to rally around any Team USA. I think the fact that we are using pros kills it as well, although it’s better for growing the game.

I really enjoyed the documentary. I do think a lot of things don’t do a good enough job capturing how good the Soviet team was. They will always mention that they were effectively pros and had dominated the Olympic competitions, but they fail to mention that the Soviet team routinely beat NHL pros including winning a 3 game series over an NHL all star in 1979.
The Miracle of Ice wasn’t just a college group beating a professional team. It was a college team beating an elite professional team.

Totally different perspective of events and the actual footage mixed in and their responses to it were great. I’ve seen the movie and documentaries too and thought I had seen it all but this was better.
