Love me some Meters...
I used to have a love/hate relationship playing this one while Dj-ing (which was rare). Love the song, but people could never keep the beat with it...

"Wichita Lineman"
That was so damn great!
He could do Glenn Campbell perfectly if he wanted to, but he threw that little extra in there.
Some really cool and different guitar too, but not too different. Thanx for posting that.

Back in 94, they came to Athens and played at the Georgia Theatre. I worked there and had been a big fan of theirs for a couple of years so it was prob the concert that I was ever the most excited for the band. I volunteered to go in around 5:00 pm and help get the venue ready. It was me and 2 other guys there when their bus rolled in. I opened the side door at side stage to let them start unloading their gear and got to talk to Art Neville and the rest of the band and give them a quick tour of the venue and take them to the backstage room where they would be leading up to the show. Watched their set get put together , sound check, etc..Still my best memory from any concert I worked there and that includes the DMB show where they filmed the Ants Marching live video.

Zigaboo is probably the most underrated/relatively unknown drummer of all time.
And Porter isn't far behind him on the bass.

George plays most Monday nights at The Maple Leaf. It's well-worth the $20, or you can live-stream it for free on the Leaf's YT site.

The meters and the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing the hand clapping song at Voodoo fest 2006 is one of my favorite memories.

The Meters have always been and will always be one of my "go to" bands when I'm thinking about what I want to listen to.
When my son was in college he had what THEY called a "funk rock" band. They came in town (they were all Aggies and my son was the only native New Orleanian) for some gigs and it happened to be Bayou Boogaloo. Leo Nocentelli was playing, so I told them about the Meters and the origins of funk rock.
Brought them to the stage. Their jaws dropped once that band started playing. Total awe.

I saw them reunite at Jazz Fest several years ago- hands down one of the greatest music events I have ever been a part of.
They said it couldn’t be done, it’s done!

I know GPJr personally and he is not only one of the greatest bassists of all time, but he is an awesome human being as well.
One of my favorite Meters associated tunes is this. Not everyone realizes just how many hits these guys were responsible for.
