Scottsdale recs

Traveling in October for friends 40th birthday with 4 couples.
Looking for hotel/resort recs. Want to be near old town (or have been told that’s where you want to be for restaurants and night life in the evenings). Budget top end is ~$600-700 a night.
Plan to eat out and enjoy the bars/restaurants in the evenings with golf and hiking during the day. Any recs on golf courses and hikes would be appreciated as well! Will have a rental car.

Just came back from Scottsdale for my 40th. Stayed at talking stick. Played both courses, nothing mind blowing but were in excellent shape
Also played Quintero which was amazing
We ate at ocean 44 and Paul martins American grill which were both really good
Talking stick is like 15 minutes from old town
We did a couple days in Sedona too and the hiking was great, it’s beautiful there

We stay at this "luxury" condo spot when we do Old Town Scottsdale. The hotels aren't really concentrated over there that I could tell.
This is just 1 unit, but it is a small quiet building and they own them all.
That being said, even as nice as this small private condo building is, I understand nothing really beats a nice hotel if that's the pampering you're looking for. I haven't tried to find one so far on trips to Old Town, beyond knowing the super high end ones are in North Scottsdale which is a hike.
If you don't mind going to North Scottsdale for dinner one night (very nice area, but not where the "scene" is), Americano is a Scott Conant restaurant that is outstanding.
In Old Town/Fashion Square area, places we loved:
The Mission - Mexican, trendy
Uchi - I will always and forever recommend Uchi any of the handful of cities that have one
Elephante - Italian, but not stuffy old school
Toca Modera - huge birthday vibes, they have fire dancers lol - very like "Mexican-ish version of Supper Club"
Speaking of Supper Club, Maple and Ash is another one of the big spots and it's almost the exact menu.
All of the high end spots will have people showing off their cars by parking out front. You just have to shake your head and laugh. It's douchey, but you just can't help but lean into enjoying it. Cars are fun to look at.
Ones that were fine but not dying to go back:
Olive and Ivy
Call Her Martina
Culinary Dropout
One thing I noticed there is EVERYONE wakes up and goes to breakfast. Pick somewhere obscure, or eat earlier than you think, or go somewhere you can reserve. We passed 25+ people in the middle of the road waiting to get into breakfast spots on a daily basis.
Our go-to early breakfast spot is through the parking lot of the condo at a place called Schmooze.
Oh, and for casual bar food and football on every single TV - Cold Beer and Cheeseburgers is comfortable and hits the spot. Nice staff. Tons of beer.
Rock Bar is across the street from the condo we stay at, so we can stumble home every night from there. That's nice.
I don't know when you're going but Barrett Jackson is in October (I will also be there), so don't drag your feet TOO long on reservations once fall hits.

Two out of the box ideas would be visiting the Botanical Gardens in Phoenix and legendary architect Frank Loyd Wright’s home and school Taliesin West in Scottsdale. Both are really cool.

OP: I don't know your group, but I see women are coming along. You MUST visit Fashion Square if they are at all the type of women who love that stuff and live here where it isn't a thing.
Go in the entrance that faces Ocean 44 and Toca Madera (ask staff) where the valet is. Especially if you're there during Barrett Jackson. The cars parked via valet outside will blow your minds, and the inside part of the mall right there will make the ladies so happy if they like that kind of thing.
Nothing beats the safety and cleanliness of Scottsdale. You feel safe taking anything nice home, and nobody is getting crazy in there. Night and day from a designer mall in Chicago, NYC, or Houston.

Stayed at Mountain Shadows in Paradise Valley and really enjoyed it.
As far as golf, Troon North, The Boulders, and Greyhawk are all good options.

Highly recommend We-Ko-Pa for golf, especially if you have a rental car. It's a short drive northeast out of Scottsdale but it's one of my favorite courses I've ever played. Westin Kierland was another fun course and it looked like a nice place to stay.

I am trying to put together a guys golf / girls pool and spa day trip. Anyone have recs on a good golf course based place to stay with either a nice main pool or a two bedroom condo with pool accommodations?

Just got home from Scottsdale a couple hours ago. Went to the in-laws snowbird house in north Scottsdale/Legend Trail for a week. Public courses to consider…. WeKoPa, Papago, Kierland, TPC, Grayhawk, Legend Trail, Boulders, Rancho Manana, Quintero. I’ve played them all, plus some of the private ones (Desert Mountain’s courses). Played Kierland and Legend Trail this week. Kierland is in great shape. Overall, my favorite public course is Quintero, then probably Grayhawk.

Warning about October - that’s the month they close the courses to over seed. It’s somewhat staggered but your choice of course may be closed.

Not sure how far you are wanting to drive for hikes, but I'd recommend the Sedona area for really cool scenic views. In particular the West fork trail of Oak creek canyon just north of Sedona should be gorgeous during October with the leaves having changed color. The west fork trail would be my #1 suggestion for hikes around the area, but there are several around Sedona that are really cool.
In town Dreamy Draw trails are just west of where you are looking at staying, and you have Camelback mountain a little west too for more strenuous elevation hikes.

We will be going to Sedona now for the first two nights. Went there a few years back the day after they had heavy snow in February. The scenery was jaw dropping beautiful with snow covering the red rocks and the sun shinning.

can't stress this enough. Was there last October and the list of available courses was small. and post seeding courses suck to play. greens are like putting on shag carpet - slower than slow. Also, for the two weeks (minimum) after overseeding the courses are cart path only.
Try to find a course that is about to overseed is my best advice.
Here is last years overseed schedule (closer to your trip I'm sure they will publish thsi years schedule)
