What’s the plan, who takes over long term? What party or regime? What happens to the military and military leadership?

I could be wrong, but I've heard the son of the overthrowned Shah will oversee a temporary government until Iran can hold elections

This ^^^^ is always the tricky part, filling the power vacuum with people who are committed to leading a nation for the benefit of the citizenry rather than greedy and corrupt opportunists getting control.

I think you are right. He has assumed a position of authority among the diaspora, assembled a transition government, and has recently told the Iranian people that the next time his cabinet is together it will be in Iran.

He is clearly being propped up by either the US or Isreal and it makes sense. He would be a fierce ally to both countries.

Shah in a provisional government under martial law while preparations are made for a constitutional monarchy. This should be relatively easy as far as nation-building goes

The greedy corrupt people losing control are busy opening Swiss Bank accounts.

Would the military leadership and their intel agencies just fall in line with that approach?

I’m sure this has been in the works for quite a while and was hashed out long before the strike was planned.

Whether it works is the question, but I don’t think they do something this big without a plan.

As Charlie Kirk said, you cannot just whiteboard that out. We haven’t had a track record of success in the ME.

The problem is that the Administration doesn’t seem to have a plan for facilitating new leadership.
Just telling Iranians that it’s up to them is a cop out. There mdoesnt seem to be any infrastructure or network of individuals to form a functioning government other than the IRGC and that’s not a hopeful prospect.
The other issue is that there will be substantial resentment of American military being used against Iran. There was a reason for the 1979 revolution.
I hope for the best but I’m not confident…

Every citizen should do a rotation in military service defending their borders.

Probably, the people will be given a constitutional referendum to vote on choosing either a constitutional monarchy similar to Great Britain or a constitutional Republic similar to the US.

In the interim, the monarchy will govern until the people have chosen their form of government.
