Was always going to happen unless we overpaid
Real question is whether he feels the well is poisoned and plans to leave regardless -- which may be the case since he sold his New Orleans home.

This is going to annoy the hell out of me, because at the end of the day I still expect the Saints to bring him back for another 1-2 years.
For those that don't follow the cap; by letting Cam hit FA his "void years" money will hit the dead cap for $8.5M. That means, when/if they resign him, he will be on the books for the dead money AND his new contract.
Whereas, if they resign him before the FA period, they can move some of that money into 2027 & 2028. And while it would be nice to finally get the cap cleaned, I think this is a reckless way to do it.

Good. Great guy and saint but better to cut bait and not overreact to a good year at his age when then drop off can be instantaneous.
This is what smart organizations do and it’s nice to see them not being reactionary.

It was time.
Saints need an infusion of young blood.

Let’s not be scared to get better and younger at the position.

Careful bunchie
The corresponding move determines if this is a good thing or not. These guys saved the defense last year, single handily. There is a world this is a major setback for what is a terrible roster with no direct replacement.

Saints defense will have a different feel if go into next season without Cam, Demario, and even Alontae Taylor. Major players at each level of our defense who all played at a high level in 2025.
Cam and Demario’s timeline has run its course, but still incredibly sad to see.
