Because despite how popular they try to tell you it is, the media rights distributions are absolute shite (because the ad rates are shite, because the audience is shite).

Mulkey has a pretty big salary for a sport that loses a ton of money

And butts in seats doesnt matter that much in this day and age.

All about TV money

Also do they fly commercial or charter?

For away trips to places like starkville they should be taking a bus when you are losing 7 mill a year

I can't understand it. There would have to be almost no revenue. How do you even spend that much in a year on women's basketball? Mulkey makes $3.2 mil/ year and 12 scholarship players should cost around $600k.

because no one watches it. No one cares.

The WNBA loses money too. Guilt subsidies from the NBA keep it afloat.

Women’s basketball is horrible.

Baseball has bigger travel team than WBB. They also play way many more games. The number should be closer to each other.

I would like to see these numbers with the SEC/tv revenue removed. Men's basketball loses out b/c no one shows up. It also hurts revenue in a way that can't really be measured (LSU Brand & merchandise). On the flip side, womens basketball helps the brand and they sell purple and gold gear all over town b/c people show up to their games. It is certainly not enough to offset the $10M difference. However, my point is that the product on the court and the actual value added are not $10M apart.

Double deck the suites, extend them down the lines and add in some 4-5 story condos for lease in the outfield with a bar on top and we turn a profit.

womens basketball had 2.5 million in revenue and 10.5 million in expenses in the most recent fiscal year

Their expenses are close to each other, but baseball has a revenues almost 4x greater than womens basketball

I would imagine gate revenue and fespecially merch absolutely dwarf the same categories for women's basketball.

As far as I'm aware, baseball doesn't have a game where they give away tickets to 8,000 grade schoolers to boost the attendance numbers.
