Watching a video of a drone fly into a house and around a corner to kill a soldier seems like a good indicator that the rules have changed.

Sorta like how the end of the Civil War predicted the trench warfare of WW1, I think we are seeing signs of a very different style of combat in the future.

Plus consider the propaganda aspect of such videos. A couple of films of American soldiers getting blasted and the public would start yelling loudly.

unfortunately, you're going to have to put boots on the ground to secure an area at the end of the day. the west would prefer a strictly naval/air war but sometimes you have to physically kick the door down and take it

As long as conflicts are dispersed and small scale. It's basically high precision artillery with very a low fire rate.

Which won't do much against a full scale invasion with a million man army on the ground.

The “boots on the ground” don’t all have to be humans really. The tech is there to shrink the number of human soldiers necessary.

Maneuver without fires is suicide, fires without maneuver is pointless.

Soldiers will still be necessary for certain things. But the paradigm has definitely shifted a bit on what a ground war is and how it’s fought.

But it seems like once EMP technology gets better, drone warfare will suffer bigly.

What's even crazier is that a lot of those drones are literally wired with a kilometers-long fiber optic line attached to them. I didn't even realize this until a few months ago.

I can't watch our American boys getting fricked up by drones.

I have seen IRobot. Lets just give AI the keys to the military. Sounds like a good idea.

Of all the domains of warfare, we still only live on one. That's still the bottom line

A different style with the same paradigm. There is no decisive victory without taking your enemies capital and overthrowing his government. War is politics by other means. We are on the escalation ladder with Iran by sending ground troops to the region right now.

They’ll send the native born guys out to get chewed up by drones and then import foreigners

Look at what’s happening in Ukraine

Depends on if you need to take ground.

Not really. Whats becoming “obsolete “ i.e. more vulnerable, is ground vehicles. You still need guys with rifles in hand to actually take territory.

The drone aspect of them changing the way battles are taught is real, but our missiles from land, sea, and air are so accurate and can fck up a lot more than a drone can.
Guess it depends what kind of war we are fighting.

One thing I’ve read on here from several people is that we are behind on drone technology. Pretty sure we were using drones that could fire missiles 20 years ago.
