The transfer from Arkansas has a rocket launcher for a leg:

Hope he can do that in a game environment! Would be nice to have a weapon like Ole Miss' kicker was last season. Obviously Kiffin recognizes the advantage that has and went and got this kid.

I believe he missed a crucial kick late against LSU this past season

This happens prolly 15 times during pre game warmups..

Serious question - why is this happening? Maybe kickers have stronger legs due to training and conditioning, but 20 years ago a kicker was lucky to kick off 60 yards to the goal line, and a FG of 50 yards was fantastic.
Have the balls changed? Are they inflated more? Has their shape changed somewhat to give them more hang time?
Seriously, there's got to be a reason for the drastic change in kicking distances.
Any thoughts?

Will be nice to be in field goal range 40 yards in. Instead of having to get to around the 30 to even consider it.
Said when he was signed that Starzyk was one of the most valuable signees that LSU got in the portal.

Same reason we can hit 3s consistenly from half court or more routinely see people run 4.3. Athleticism, practice, and the belief that you can do so. It just took someone running a 4 minute mile and then boom. Ton of people did it.

But we're in a world now where seeing guys routinely kick a ball 75 yards (or more) on kickoffs, when a short time ago, it was a stretch to kick 60.
FGs from 55 yards are expected, and those FGs don't just eek over the crossbar - they easily clear and would be good from much farther.
That's a 25% improvement in a short time, which can't be rationally explained by weight training and practice.
There has to be another contributing factor. A change in the ball is likely.
Much like baseball - HRs exploded a few years back with different bats and balls.

I kinda feel like they are just practicing it more. My 4 minute mile example is what I am going with lol

Kids specialize super young these days. They have kids that start training specifically to be kickers when they're in peewee football age groups.
That's the answer. It used to be "Soandso has a strong leg, maybe he should kick" early in high school and they develop from there.
Now it's happening at 8-10 years old.

That definitely wasn’t Ramos’s forte.

In college football in a game situation 60 yarders are definitely a big thing. According to AI there were only 2 this past year.

We've done well to have great kickers at LSU and i really dont want to see that end. These guys are so damn important. Reliability helps so much in decision making on offense.

I remember Ramos coming up short on a 45 yard field goal then hitting a 52 yarder in the same game, I would love for the special teams to be an actual weapon
