Looking to get a dedicated turkey gun for next year. something with a shorter barrel, right choke and red dot. don’t want to break the bank and would be good with a pump. would be fine buying used. appreciate any recs or places to look. thanks

Mossberg 940 pro turkey fits the bill.

Retay GPS XL
Got one of these this year (mine is a pump) with a Carlsons choke and Federal TSS shells. Don't have an optic but soon to get one. First shotty with a pistol grip and it's very comfortable to handle. Killed our first one at 50 yds.

Camo Benelli Nova with a Terror 660 choke tube. Buy 3 different boxes of turkey loads and hunt with the one that has the most evenly distributed pattern at 40 yards.

Got the same gun basically but a Bennelli super black eagle three with a red dot and a 665 choke. With TSS if you put the dot on the bird he is going down.

I got this same gun last year as a du gift. Set it up for turkey in 20 ga with a scope and it's deadly. It's also lightweight and easy to carry like the pistol grip a lot.

Anyone have the Mossberg O/U? I don’t know why there aren’t more cheap O/U turkey guns with 18-20” barrels in 20gauge or 410 even. I like the O/U due to having a 2nd shot and choke option.

I bought my dad a Retay (no pistol grip) a few years ago and he loves the gun. Said he's never had more fun killing turkeys than he does with that gun
He was using an old Mossberg pump

I have no first hand knowledge but I saw a video of someone patterning an O/U like that and the POI from top to bottom barrel were very different
My 870 20ga is the tits

Stevens 301T 20ga, meadow Creek low profile mount, Burris ff3 and a Carlson LBXR .568 choke. With TSS you can kill a turkey farther than youd ever think. Doesn't weigh anything and cheap.

Bought a retay about two weeks ago. Love it so far. I slapped a red dot on it I had laying around the house.

I took my son's Franchi Affinity Compact 20g this past weekend. Gun weighs nothing.
A few years ago, I replaced the compact stock with a regular.
I would need to double check, but I believe the gun is drilled a tapped for a rail.
That gun with TSS would be a great dedicated turkey gun.

Was it the cheaper Mossberg? That's one concern with a cheap 0/U for sure.
But to be honest, my thought was have one extra full choke and make the red dot patter to it. Then something like a modified for shots of 15-30 yards. it would have to be a total piece of crap to not be able to have a good enough pattern at under 30 yards with a modified choke?
Now, if you needed that back up modified at 30+ yards then I could certainly see an issue.

I won one of those Retay Turkey guns at a DU event. Still in the box. Can’t beat my BPS 3.5” pump which is heavier to handle the recoil from those high brass lead shells.

I bought a Mossberg SA-20 Turkey last year. Carlsons choke. Sumtoy mount with Burris ff3 and upgraded the trigger. It's a nice setup.
Also have the mossberg 500 410 pump turkey that comes with the Holosun red dot. I like it as well. Very light and compact.
I also have a Steven's 410 turkey that I for the kids. It's fun to being occasionally as well.

I start using my boys' .410 after I've killed one or two turkeys every year.
