If tweet fails to load, click here.Pretty funny chart, on two fronts. First, the "why don't these guys just put the bat on the ball!" crowd ignores this stuff.
Second, the old timers vastly overstating their velocity

What year(s) did they transition to newer guns that picked the ball up right out of the hand?

Show that what Judge is doing is that much more impressive

Yeah, hard to compare timeframes and eras based on different technologies to measure.
In the early 2000s, Stalker Radar Guns emerged

They probably also ignore infield defense getting better and better… this is why they’re trying to lift the ball. Ground balls don’t win, if they ever did

And pitchers these days also do this lmao

you mean like the people who think Nolan Ryan's fastball was actually 108 mph?

There are multiple posters on this board who claim pitchers threw just as hard in the 60s, it’s just measured differently and embellished by MLB

mid to early 90s when stalker came out but that wasnt the only ones used. and nothing was standardized until statcast era.

stalked came out in 89 but ka band didnt come out until early 90s. which was the big jump in radar tech
edited to correct myself
speed gun was the original that tried to pick it up at home plate or within 10'. then jugs came out late 70s that measured like 10' from release, then stalker that measured at the hands
the new stalker guns give out the hand, at the plate(called roll down) and spin rate

I remember Joel Zumaya throwing 103-104 mph back in the mid-late 2000s.

If Aroldis Chapman through a heater in the 1960s, they would've re-segregated baseball.

Pitching has gotten better for sure but Nolan Ryan's overlay is also absurd

it's pretty hard to believe the average major league fastball in 2008 was 91mph.
