I've been reading a lot of econ articles about unemployment compensation and it's effect on the desire to go to work.
The right says that paying people not to work makes them not work.
The left says that everyone wants to work. There are jobs and unemployment money = growth.
Here is the poll question:
Do unemployment benefits decrease the incentive to find a job?
a. Yes
b. No

a. I have seen proof of this in person.

a.
Unemployment benefits is something I cannot fathom. Not being able to find a job is also unfathomable to me. Of course, I don't believe any job is below someone, if it puts food on the table and provides a roof over ones head.

A...absolutely. I have close family that proves it; I know them very well. Ruined em', really. Of course, unemployment nws, they probably wouldn't work anyway.
In the old days an individual had to have worked in the last 5 quarters to qualify; my suspicion - just like with SSI Disability - legit requirements have become so lax...that they are virtually non-existent.

A in theory.
I am not aware of how unemployment benefits are paid. Is it the same amount for everyone or is it based on the level of pay at the time you lost your job?
If the benefits are the same, someone who was making over $100,000 a year will be more inclined to look harder for work to maintain his current lifestyle.
Someone, making minimum wage has no incentive to look for work.

A -yes
I think it does have that tendency. But, I also believe that a person who has lost their job has a right to receive some of the money they contributed to the fund.
Where people disagree, obviously, is over the length of time someone should be allowed to receive these benefits.

I'm not sure, but I think it's a fixed amount like $1400/month. Wouldn't surprise me if I'm wrong though. Someone else can give a better answer.

Definitely agree. Of course, if someone was making 100,000 a year, that should already indicate that they have a solid work ethic in the first place.

This was probably the demographic the OP had in mind when he asked the question.
