Broke 100 today for the first time on my home course

And damn it felt good. I had been flirting with it for the last 4-5 rounds, but couldn't get over the hump. Today I finally did it.
It's kind of bitter sweet though, because I left at least 6-8 strokes out there with bad chipping and putting.
For the past few weeks I have been absolutely crushing my driver, and have finally gotten somewhat consistent with the irons (I was having trouble before hitting my irons too thin or fat too often).
What do you guys do to get better on shots where you are stuck between clubs? PW-6 iron I am fine. My PW is good from 115-125 out. The drop from that though is to my sand wedge, which I can only get 75 yards out of. I find myself stuck in the 80-110 range a lot and have to pick between coming up short, or flying the green.

Choke down your PW a couple inches

You need an approach wedge. I got one and it changed my game.

Work on 3/4 and 1/2 swings.
If you like to practice go shoulder high, chest high, waist high, knee high.
If you have four wedges, then you add 16 different shots.

Two words
Gap wedge
If your SW is 56*, get a 52* for gap wedge

From 55-70 I go with a pitching wedge, what I feel is about knee high (but it's probably actually more like waist high). Usually hit some solid shots doing that. I'll have to work on going up a little more to try to find that 100 yard shot I guess.

In that situation I’d much rather opt for a 52°

Practice 1/2 and 3/4 swings. You have to develop feel...and that takes reps, lots of them. You want to spend at least half of your practice time hitting 8 thru lob wedge.

TBH, if he’s a 30+ handicap, 2* probably won’t make much difference, plus or minus.
Lessons & range time probably will make the biggest impact...

I actually took lessons.
Yes. I was that bad. I should probably practice more, but I don't do it enough. I'm about to start spending more time chipping and putting though. It's turned into the worst part of my game, which is a plus because it's the easiest to practice. Also a good sign, I think, because it used to be the best part of my game.

Congrats on the round.. as someone mentioned, you could probably benefit from adding a 52 degree to your bag to fill that yardage gap.
I had a lesson today. I’m an 8 handicap. Lessons are for everyone. Practice is great but making sure you are practicing the right things is more important.

Throttling your swing is one of the areas I struggle with the most at times. Especially from the 25 yard range and in. I can get 50y to 115y with my 58 degree but any closer than 50y, the greater the chance I blade or duff the shot.

Nobody should carry wedges that are only 2* apart from one another. You're just wasting a bag slot at that point.

I agree with this.
OP...try experimenting with different ball positions and opening the clubface at address. These are good ways to take a little bit off of a full shot when in between clubs

Southern Oaks in Abbeville.

I'm glad it reopened. Abbeville needs that course. I played a scramble there a couple of weeks ago. I think your greens will be nice with a summer of growth.

Me too. Although, I did love Crowley. Was about to get a membership when they announced Abbeville opening.
I'm guessing most other courses around this area are closed because it's been packed lately, even during the week. Don't see as many of the usual old folks out there as much, but the course is packed with baws.

Hope so. They had some drainage issues with all that rain when it was cold. They did a lot to try to fix it and kind of tore up some fairways. Can't wait till that grows in. Although, as soon as the fairways are all greened up I'll probably start not being able to hit them anymore.

I think y'all have the only paspalum greens in the state. My favorite hole is 17, where you tee off from out of bounds. If you dribble it off the tee, you have to take stroke and distance.
