The quality of the education provided by these "elite" institutions continues to decline. They should offer a degree in Opinion.

It is NOT just the elite institutions.
Family member began college this week. Freshman engineering. Large public university. English 101 is, in theory, supposed to deal with 'academic' writing. Textbook, exclusive to said university and written by university minions, starts off with chapter 1 which indicates that there is no such thing as bad writing, and writing in any jargon is absolutely correct. English is not America's language but the world's language and can be used in any which way without prejudice. In a post-Ferguson world.
An almost direct quote from the textbook. Indoctrination begins on day 1. Next assignment has to do with the beauty of 'black' hair. I only wish I were kidding!

Wait...it says "in a post ferguson world" in the text book?

I know, but certain universities are held out as elite when what is actually being taught in non STEM classes is littered with worthless, unverifiable opinion.

I assume the student will appeal this absurd nonsense.

YES! My dh asked 'what the he-- is a 'post-Ferguson' world?
Another phrase in the 'textbook' is 'Breonna Taylor, et al (all the names of those involved in police killings recently) were 'deprived' of their lives by police.' Verbatim from said book!

quote:Factoid: Anderson Cooper, of CNN fame, is the great-great-great grandson of Cornelius "Commodore" Vanderbilt who donated $1,000,000 to fund the founding of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
Vanderbilt
It was the largest charitable gift in U.S. history at the time it was made.
In 2007 dollars it would have been the equivalent of making a charitable gift of approximately $14 BILLION.
Factoid #2: Part of Commodore Vanderbilt's fortune was made transporting slave-picked cotton prior to the Civil War from the southern U.S. states to New York's and New England's cloth manufacturing mills via his vast railroad and steamship empire.

After the Bible and the Ten Commandments, the US Constitution is the greatest document ever written.
