The greatest Bourbon Challenge is collecting Bourbon but not talking about.

Nah eagle rare was great as a $25-30 bottle but then the Pokémon players I mean bourbon hunters decided it had a cute bottle so now it’s a $60 bottle

Agreed. The overwhelming majority of fans wouldn't give a shite about Blantons if it weren't for John Wick. It does have a bit of a distinctive flavor profile, but I don't particularly like it myself. I will acknowledge there is a uniqueness to the bottle.

Eagle Rare 10 happens to be my favorite to just take a pour of.

Am I the only one that prefers EH Taylor over eagle rare?

The buffalo trace line is all good to great but liquor stores overprice the bottles to the consumer. They have the problem of capacity and demand. Its a 7 to 10 year process to account for the demand. Seems like they got insanely popular in the last 10-15 years and havent caught up on production. Liquor stores mark up the popular bottles to higher than they're actually wortb. If youre going to spend $100 on blantons, you can find a huge number of better bourbons for that price point. Its a great $60 bottle.

McKenna from Heaven Hill Distillery is my favorite right now. Every other place I’ve lived it was difficult to get. Now, I live in a state that controls pricing in liquor stores and price is reasonable.

I found a Willett 12year rare release rye last year that I haven’t tried yet.

We have several of the Buffalo Trace mash bill #1 bourbons.

No, it’s good. The problem is that it is a $50-$60 bottle. That was its sweet spot. It’s not worth the price that it commands now.

I appreciate the boost to tourism we've seen around here, as well as the influx of dollars, maybe I just take bourbon for granted since it's all right here, but good bottle or cheap bottle........I buy it to drink and share with friends, and when it's empty, I throw it out

The lone bottle I have saved is this Maker's Mark Tim Couch limited edition. It's on my fire place mantle with several other pieces of Kentucky memorabilia. And even then, I still opened the bottle and drank it. It's just Makers Mark, nothing special about it. Just a cool bottle.

I still see it for $40-45 and at that price it's still a good value in my opinion.

No. In fact, I don't know anyone that prefers eagle rare over EH Taylor. Personally, I think Taylor is the best $60 bottle I've ever had

Probably wouldn’t waste another dollar on it. Eagle Rare is way better for less money.

Yeah, decent was basically faint praise. I wouldn't say it sucked, but I easily have a dozen bottles of bourbon and scotch in my bar I would drink before Blanton's. I won't buy another bottle. I need to get a bottle of Eagle Rare and my bottle of Hillrock is getting low.

The latest heaven hill offerings have surpassed the Buffalo trace line, IMO.

My biggest challenge collecting bourbon is that I drink it before I get much of a collection.

People are going to get uppity in here since it's technically not a bourbon and the thread title says bourbon, but another thing I have enjoyed collecting are the Jack Daniels cube shaped bottles.

Single Barrel Rye
Single Barrel Rye Barrel Proof
Single Barrel Select
Single Barrel Barrel Proof
Heritage
10 year
12 year
14 year

I've got them all arranged on a shelf all with a pour or three taken out of them. It's a nice visual with a bottle of the... not cube shaped... Sinatra Select in the middle

I've had it two different Whiskey Wednesdays. I cannot think of a more overacted whiskey at the moment. I always wondered who keeps buying it.

On the EH Taylor vs Eagle Rare thing, I always thought I like EH better, but ER keeps beating it in our home blinds. Not by much though.

I have the five key club. It wasn't that hard. Other than having a faux-gold cup, I'm not sure what it gets me. Also my state is not keen on alcohol promotions so I had it mailed to my dad.

Much rather would've got a hat or something, it looks kinda idiotic walking around with a gold julep cup. Especially since I don't drink juleps.

I think shitting on Blanton's has become trendier than drinking Blanton's.

I like ER as well as Blanton's. But i'm also not a contrarian.

And i get all the youtube bourbon nerds hate Blantons, but i think it's a good Bourbon. It's smooth and drinkable. I had some this past weekend after crawfish with a cigar.

EH Taylor is my all time favorite bottle of bourbon. It has a very distinct flavor profile that i don't get from any other bourbon.

I think that's about to change. The neckbeards priced us out of normal bourbon, so many distilleries expanded capacity. Then, post covid, the young kids stopped drinking and so did all the neckbeards. We are about to have an over abundance of quality bourbon, which hopefully, means that allocation goes away and you'll start seeing the Eagle Rare's/EH Taylor's on the shelf a lot more.

FWIW, i'm hunting Old Forrestor 1924. I can't find it but really want to try it. However, i think MSRP is around $115, which means store prices will likely be in the 150 or more range and i don't pay that much for booze.
