I rinse the rice once, pick out the bad looking grains and let it roll..

I find bugs and small worms in my rice reasonably often (from fresh bags). I wash my rice multiple times.
Pretty sure the purpose behind washing rice isn’t necessarily to “clean” it, but to remove exterior starch so that the final product is less “mushy” for lack of a better word. Helps the grains to stay separate from one another.

The texture is still way better than that

Never do. There was a big thread in this here before. All the experimenting showed there was no difference.

Take a look in a rice dryer once…you will wash your rice twice lol. In Ville Platte everyone washes - tons of rice farmers….gross to me if not.

I don’t. Rinse after just to stop the cooking process. I like it al dente

I never used to. But once i started using a Korean rice maker I found it comes out better if washed.

Yes, always. Unless I'm cooking risotto, but that's only because rinsing it will ruin it.
You really don't want to know how dirty your rice is when you pour it out of the bag. Give it a good rinse. Or five. Trust me.

I was told if you have “enriched” rice you are washing away all the enriching nutritional properties. But then I think, why the hell do I need any of that anyway. I just want freaking rice.
Enriched rice had its place when dirt poor people were dying of vitamin deficiencies. In 2024, anyone hoping to get their nutrition from the rice they eat is doing it really fricking wrong

I use the water after washing rice for my wifes hair. It's an old Japanese hair thing. Thats why their hair is so beautiful.

you do realize two layers of the rice is coming off before it gets too you right?
Go to a rice mill in the clean rice section. It's night and day between there and rice dryer as far as cleanliness

I only wash Calrose rice. Usually about 7 times.
Long-grain mahatma and etc. nope.

As I said, sounded pretty extreme to me. The doc was a little wackadoo.

Funny story, years ago I was talking to this "Cajun" who swore by washing rice the get the starches out and prevent clumping.
I just nod and whatnot. I'm in central Texas I'll add, so I'm always curious about these folks.
They're cooking, and this dude cooks his rice, puts it in a strainer, and washes it in the sink after cooking.
I said "bruh, what you doing?"
And he just said "I'm washing rice, like my Cajun people".
Never seen that dude again.
