Recovering from Covid. How long does it take to get smell and taste back and what can I do to speed it up?

When I had Covid in August of 2021, I had to stay home from work for 5 days and I went stir crazy.
I just decided to go for long walks and turn a podcast on. When I would get back home from a 5-6 mile walk, I could smell a little bit. It wouldn't last for long. But each walk I did it stayed longer and longer. Until one walk it stayed and didn't leave.
I have no scientific evidence of this, but it worked for me and it actually worked for another one of my patients. So give it a go

Just hope when yours comes back it doesn't make things taste awful. Wine still tastes like plastic to me and it's been over 3 years. Anything with sulfates tasted bad for almost 2 years.

My wife is at almost 2yrs of having minimal sense of taste. I can’t believe this isn’t a bigger topic in the health community, most folks dealing with don’t talk about it much.

I lost essentially 100% of smell and taste when I had Covid. Not exaggerating at all, I could drink a mouthful of whiskey and not distinguish it from water (although it did still burn going down, which was a really neat sensation). Had a pretty bad cough for a few weeks as well. Stopped smoking cigars while I was sick.
Got fed up with it after a few weeks and lit one up anyway, and by the end of the cigar I could smell and taste again and the cough went away that night.
Completely anecdotal and probably just some witch's brew/snake oil, but I'd try smoking a cigar and seeing if that helps. If it doesn't do anything....well, you smoked a cigar, so still not a bad evening.

I didn't get covid but had anosmia from a sever sinus infection.
I used lime flavors.
Go buy big bags of limes. Squeeze two into a small glass with a little water a small amount of salt and sugar.
In my mind salt increases your ability to taste, as does msg. Took about a week but it came back.
My buddy had the same issue for months, a week of limeade and he could smell again.

Lost sense of smell 2 years ago and right now it seems like I only have 40-50% back. Don’t think it’s going to improve much more than that.

I lost taste and smell in August of 2022 after having covid. The anosmia didn’t start until my symptoms had subsided besides a lingering cough.
Lasted about two weeks. Taste and smell was completely gone.
I read that zinc, vitamin c, and quertecin could help get taste and smell back. Might have been coincidence, but it returned a few days after taking them.

You need to catch up on semtame vaxxes and boosters. Then you die and it doesn’t matter.

Try avoiding the test that damages the olfactory bulb and nerves.

Ugh I hope I don't go this long. I never lost my taste or smell, but random sweet foods have been off for me since July. Bananas are the worst off smell, but beer, raw apples, and blueberries all have weird almost stale flavors.

Same here. She had tried basically everything, and has finally just adjusted to it.

Have y’all tried the FLCC Long COVID protocol?

I lost my sense of smell for about 2 weeks and since it came back it seems to be better than it was before.
I do get the random whiff of cigarette smoke from time to time but I now attribute that to the ghost that is a smoker that haunts my house.
