I live slightly northeast of Pensacola, FL. Yes, we did get a freeze. I put large plastic bags over everything. They weathered it fine, believe it or not. We had been having temps in the upper 70's and 80's immediately before the freeze, so I think the soil stayed warm.
My beefsteaks are loaded with tomatoes. the pole beans are 2 feet past my 8' trellis and have baby beans on them. the bell peppers are the best I have ever grown, cucumbers have fruit on them, strawberries getting picked every other day.
I had started my seeds right after New Year. My seedlings did great under my new UV lights. Planted them in garden on February 16th after hardening off for several weeks.
My garden looks the best it ever has. I am tickled to death. I feel like my fairy godmother came and waved her magic wand.

Bought "cat grass" seeds just for the heck of it. Turns out, cats do like it. She no longer messes with anything else.

I planted probably the second week of February. Started slow, but things moving now. Got some Sun Sugar and Sugar Rush cherry tomatoes starting to ripen. Larger tomatoes starting to really put on fruit. Violet Delight eggplants finally flowering after a very slow start. Some 4” long banana peppers. Sugar snap peas being inundated with powdery mildew. Harvested yellow squash three times already.

Wow. I am amazed that your eggplants are blooming. I didn't plant any, nor any squash. That makes me sad. I could have grown them in the greenhouse once all the plants came out of there.

Quick report on homemade herbicide. Fill a spray bottle with uncut 30% vinegar. Add a tablespoon of salt and a squeeze of dawn soap.
Instant death…like ten minutes
I used a small pot that I cut the bottom out of to isolate the spray over the weeds. Spray just the leaves and don’t soak the soil with it

My neighbor uses this type of mix on her entire .4 acre gravel yard. The smell is intense for days.

This is as good as my garden will ever look…so I’m making y’all look at it. Dealt with most of the weeds, we got companion flowers and herbs planted on the borders, and planted the cantaloupe sprouts. Just waiting on okra
There’s good bee coverage on the clover so we should be in good shape once the plants start flowering

What type of watering system do you have?
Posted on 4/11/26 at 7:15 am to RetiredSaintsLsuFan
a grid of plastic drip hose in each bed. It works but it isn’t great for seeds or newly planted transplants so I hand water until everything is established. I should have used spray hose

Looks great!
I always love mid April to mid May, cause the garden looks great. Then the heat and humidity start taking over and everything starts going to shite.

All is going well here. Except the rain shortly after planting potatoes. Not the stand I was wanting, but I'll be grateful for what did come up.

Happy to see all that clover in the field. You could (if you want to) sow clover between the rows and bring in bees/choke out weeds.

I've honestly never thought about that. Off to research.

common practice in organic row gardening. I don’t row garden but I keep lots of clover in the beds. My friends at berry hill farm swear by it and they have a couple hundred rows for their vegetable subscriptions

I saw my first cucumber fruit coming on yesterday. Chile's have been putting out fruits for a week now. Things looking good!

Been using this for years.
It's lethal and very rapid.

continuing the homemade garden supply chain, I’m trying something new this year. I have a 20 yard pile of composted cow manure that’s been under a tarp for two years. It’s powdery soft and mixes easily in water…so I’m mixing a couple shovelfuls in a wheelbarrow with water and using it to water the plants once or twice a month. So far so good
I also hit the new tree seedlings with some today

I saw the orange and black winged bringer of death yesterday evening on a squash plant after our storms moved through.
