According to Thamel, he got a deal making him one of CFB's highest paid players, so I'd imagine SC gave him at least 3 million.
SC would have been better off taking that bag of money and getting a few good players to add more quality depth.

We tried here, and it seems like we got relatively close, but the tide shifted back in SC's favor yesterday. According to Thamel, he got a deal making him one of CFB's highest paid players, so I'd imagine SC gave him at least 3 million.
This has gotten so stupid. Can’t blame him for taking that kind of money. Who cares about winning at that point

I don’t understand this decision at all. They’re going to be hot garbage next year

Didn't they already have this agreement with Stewart just before we took their DL? The port officially open on Jan 2. I'd wait until then when we can actually make moves on other team's players.

I really don’t mind this.
Saves the $ that LSU can spend elsewhere and Stewart doesn’t land at a CFP type team!

Imagine wanting to stay with a lame duck coach and also the guy that recruited you not even being there anymore
We move on. Tiger bait

I know right. And he only has 1 year. Good for him though.

I get this may sound dumb but from what I’ve seen this kid really loves SC. The bag absolutely helped but I’m sure we at least matched what SC offered
Posted on 12/23/25 at 6:57 pm to xtremecouture23
Doesn’t mean he’s staying.

The moves are all made well before the portal actually opens

Good for him. I know he is probably getting paid greatly to stay but maybe some of it is commitment to friends and teammates and fans. Wish more star players would stay put to who they committed to

This is so fricking ridiculous the millions these college kids are getting.

Not a dumb take at all. If the kid seriously loves SC and wanted to see things through, then good for him. Need more of that loyalty in college football. Just hate we’re not the beneficiaries of it

That’s just it. You don’t hardly ever see players of Stewarts caliber hitting the transfer portal. Because hardly no team is just going to let their elite star player just walk out without panicking and going ape shite on the money offer to keep them.
Now I’ll say Caleb Downs was one of those elite guys that did go to the portal. But guys like him are an extreme rarity in the portal.

Yeah, some of these elite guys only care about the money and don't realize every game is a chance to develop. They assume the money will always be maximally available for them at every level. When its probably in their best interest to go to the best programs and play tough schedules and win games and make an impact. All programs aren't equal.

100%
It’s hard for college sports fan to accept but 99.99% or players would jump from a school they’ve been a fan of since infancy for millions of dollars a year. As they should because at the end of the day it’s just college football and 3M dollars can completely change the options your family has going forward even if you flame out before the draft.
You’re essentially winning life as a teenager/20 year old.

Maybe so but I bet they had to call a brinks truck to keep him.
