Jay mentioned Reaves today. He also mentioned the warning track power I mentioned. It's a real close battle there. Reaves probably has better range and is more athletic. Dardar probably has the more consistent glove. Reaves is probably a better hitter and Dardar also a good hitter with more power. It is too close to call. Simpson or Pearson could also push their way in with strong offensive performances
Agree Wild. Lots of good options in the infield. Spring scrimmages will be a battleground for sure.

You say Stanfield had a couple of fall homers last year, well he had 1 all season. He tries to go gap to gap

That would be fine if he had elite speed or elite at walks…I just find it wild we can’t find a LFer who can contribute more. I like him, but surely I can’t be the only guy who thinks this..he is good on defense but is switching to LF which is not nearly as premium on defense

I assume Jay adjusted his swing between fall and spring last year. He has elite speed, high character, plenty of SEC experience and I believe he hit .314 last year, going off of memory. I believe he could even have a higher average this year. I'm pretty happy he is back for his Senior year.

Stanfield had one of the best averages on the team in SEC play for a good portion of the season last year. He was a guy who you knew wouldn't drop off when SEC play started because he had so much SEC experience and scouting reports were already out on him. We needed that last year on a team with so many first year SEC players. He may not be an every day player this year, idk, but if our biggest complaint is a returning starter from a CWS championship team being in the lineup....

Stanfield was clutch last year in the bottom of the lineup……the lack of power won’t be an issue we have a few power hitters again. Need people on base with power hitters in the box Stanfield fills that role and plays good in the outfield.

He was the best 9 hole hitter in the SEC 2025 and maybe all of college.

Yorke could very well lead the team in HRs.

Yes we do we got some posters who know baseball. I’m surprised Hold That Tiger 10 hasn’t chimed in yet. He’s always good for a few opinions and laughs.

Jay also seems really high on Cowan. I like Cowan but maybe not as much as Jay. Jay obviously knows more than me

Cowan is a fantastic pitcher and we are fortunate to have him this year. I think he will perform up to his potential in his Sr year.

All of this ^^^. I don't remember what the final numbers were but Stanfield lead the team in doubles last year for most of the season and was the perfect hitter for the 9 hole in front of Curiel. Dude has been absolutely clutch for us.

If Jay is indeed moving him to left to get Derek some exposure at center, I don't understand how anybody could draw a negative from the move because he was excellent in the field at CF.

you should probably trust Jay this year, so you don't look like a fool again, Butt.

He honestly looked like he lost a decent bit of weight from that mark. I'd be surprised if he was pushing close to 300lbs now. I would guess 275-280 from his standing at the mic on video.

TBH he moves well for such a big guy. I saw him field a few balls that I didn't think he'd be able to get to at all. I can recall him getting to a hotly hit ball throwing to 2B and starting a double play where he got back to first in time for the return throw.

I think he will be good enough at first and we all know that his bat plays.

I could see Carraway, Pearson, and Simpson battling for 3B (all are R/R), with Dardar and Reaves battling for 2B (L/R). That ensures at least 1 more lefty in the lineup. As others have said, they seem interchangeable defensively at those spots so the 2 hottest bats will emerge as starters.

see I disagree with this. The outfield and Milam imo are the only 4 who are going to be everyday players this year. Like you said if our biggest complaint as fans is a returning senior who was the best 9 hole in the conference last season then it looks like we could be in pretty good shape this year.
